303 British. This would be a top choice for what you need.

9.3x74 would be a second choice.

The Browning Custom Shop has offerred both O/U and SxS doubles in 30.06 for dog years. They are lovely. Built, I think, by LeBeau-Courally. If they can do it, so can your 'smith.

Good hunting!

.30-30 Win. or 9.3x74R would be my first 2 choices.

However, I think either the .308 Marlin Express or .338 Marlin Express rounds would be interesting.

I would post question this in the Double Rifle section.

Another option is the .30-40 Krag. Loaded with 200 or 220-grain bullets it is reasonable for any North american game and most Africn game. It also has the advantage of a lot of reloading data, and a great selection of factory-available ammo loaded with bullets from 150 grains up to 220 grains.

.405 would be another possibility; .30-40 a strong possibility, too.

I visited Bailey at his shop Sunday-WOW.

You can let your imagination run wild- he can build it. I will tell you he is a big fan of the 303.

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."
