Equally as interesting is the Richardson and Roberts custom action on which the builders of the rifle on Gunbroker (MNRCUSTOM) will build a custom rifle. I wonder if the R & R action has the feed rails machined into the receiver like the Pre-64 Model 70s did?

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/2 the price of an Echols?

Doesn't give any stock measurements in the description, but there doesn't appear to be enough drop at the heel to use that peep comfortably. Nice wood. Classic caliber. Very hard to judge fit and finish from a pic.

It's on the MNR Custom website under For Sale.

It's built on a Brazilian Mauser action, 1908 or 1935 perhaps. You can see the Brazilian crest in the pictures on their website.

More like 1/4 the price of an Echols.

Well what do you expect for a mere 9000 USD? IMHO, it is a tad overpriced, but what do I know???

Hey now, I happen to like blue table cloths. His white balance happens to be terrible.

MNR's Hatari is listed @ $9800 on their website. So an Echols, walnut stocked, built on a Mauser action, runs $39,200? Plus or minus, of course.

Mr. Echols website brochure lists his Classic light sporter (which he seems to prefer to build on Classic model 70 actions) for $32k. The standard length mausers of his that I've seen (in magazine articles) were built on extensively detailed 1909 Argentine actions. I would expect he would make his own bottom metal and follower to what he would deem to be the most ideal specs for a given cartridge. Best way to find out for sure would be to ask him. If I had an unlimited budget to have the finest of the fine, absolutely reliable hunting rifle built, I would talk to D'Arcy Echols.

The recoil pad is a Silvers, the snob ultimate of recoil pads, used on thousands of old English rifles and most double rifles, and some of the best custom bolt rifles in the world. I use them a lot particularly if Im going to leather cover them.

Like most things, its an individuals choice and can be replaced..

What I find amusing is expecting to receive bids on an expensive rifle and posting only 4 pictures.

I refuse to have any dealings with gunBroker, including posting on their forum.

Hi Guys, I'm new to AR and am loving the forum. I'm also the builder of this rifle and thought I could give some additional information on the build.
To start; it was a commissioned rifle, so stock dimensions, recoil pad choice, peep sight, etc. were all to the customer's specs. Mid-way through the project we started a second rifle for his upcoming hunt so he decided to sell the first rifle to help fund the second. All that to say; if a buyer doesn't like the pad choice or would prefer to be able to mount a scope, the alterations could be made as part of the sale.
I agree with Dave that four pictures isn't enough when looking to buy this kind of rifle. I had issues uploading more than four photos to Gunbroker. There's more on my website: http://mnrcustom.com/for-sale/
I would also be happy to take some additional photos if someone is thinking about purchasing the gun.

I'm guessing the pad looks "hideous" because the white balance is off?

Thanks Butch.

"I'm guessing the pad looks "hideous" because the white balance is off?"
That could very well be the case. It is a Silvers pad which many guys like for classic English style rifles.

I love the Silvers pads, easy to leather cover..Nice gun for sure..

BTW, that buffalo on your web page!! I would bet dollars to donuts it was shot by Will who posts here on AR, when he hunted with Barry van Heerden who I used to book hunts for.

Welcome to AR,stick around, we can always use someone with your expertise in gun building.

Thank you Ray! I'm sure I'll learn more from other builders here than I'll be able to share any "expertise" but I'm happy to chime in.

I'll have to take your dollars on the buffalo kill though Smiler It was taken by a doc over in Zambia. I'm not sure if he'd like his name posted here but it wasn't Will.
