Have a 1917 in good shape...shoots .30-06 just fine. I'd like to convert it to a .338 RUM or .338 RUM AI. What do I need to know as far as having the bolt face worked etc?

It's only standard magnum size bolt face so there is nothing complicated there. The case is basically improved anyway so you will gain very little AI this case. Infact you will get more improvement and it will be a lot easier to neck up the 300 RUM case and build the 338 Edge. The action is big enough, if you plan on making it with a magazine and getting it to feed, then it will get complicated, and expensive. Regards S&F

The 17's mag is way longer than need be for the '06 cartridge, and I should be able to hog-out a little if need be.

if its the riveted steel box, you turn the ends around .. DO NOT "ai" a rum case .. you would be throwing away 90cents on the dollar, for less than 100fps .. don't bother ,... part of the reason AI works is that they take 50kpsi rounds and load them to 65000 opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round?
