My brother is left handed and has always wanted a custom rifle. Instead of liking big bores like I do,he has opted for a 22lr and contacted Doan Trevor to do the stock and finish the rifle. The bastogne blank I purchased from AR's Christrees about a month ago . The action is a hard to find LH Anschutz Fortner straight pull with a .749 heavy barrel. The Anschutz Fortner is hand made in Germany and is the action of choice for Biathlon olympic medalists.

The Peter Fortner action firing straight pull type.

Doan Trevor has been a joy to work with and we can't wait to see the finished rifle. Mr.Trevor specialises in target rifles, both rimfire and centerfire. Doan has posted the first photos of the project.

The Blank has straight grain and "Tiger Tail" fiddle back & good color .From the images below it is a beauty.

Many thanks to Doan for this beautiful rifle ,exceeded my expectations.
Also to Mark Sheppard at Altius Firearms for having the Fortner left hand action hid away for me,quite the rare animal.
To Chris for his beautiful blank in Bastogne which had spectacular fiddleback.

I love watching a bespoke rifle being made by hand; like watching a baby growing up. Lovely walnut stock too.

PD999, Can't wait to see the finshed stock. I saw those blanks from Christrees. You have fine taste. CB

If you wouldn't mind sharing, what RPM are you running when you cut the barrel channel with the big ball nose?

To the uneducated eye this doesn't look good. What am I missing here?

Here is an image of a stock that is very similar to the Fortner stock being made. The clearance shown is for the adj cheek piece .

Doan is moving right a long with the custom floor plate, trigger guard and stock. I think the metal work looks great. So far for this being the first Fortner that Doan has ever done and he said he needed a challenge...looks very nice. As far as I know only Alex Sitman and Marc Shepard have made custom Fortner rifles. Now Doan can add his name to the list.

That stock (and rifle) will be gorgeous. I'm a big fan of target rifles with fine wood.

Doan's photography of the process is great too.

It's Done! I am really happy with the wood and the rifle in general. Doan did a great job with the overall design especially with the magazine and release. Most fortners have the mag where it is up inside the stock. The rifle is sleek looking. Thanks to Doan and Christrees for a beautiful blank.

Thanks Chris......Doan said it was dense and very hard.
He said it was well worth all the work.

Doan Trevor did the stock and I don't know i'll have to ask him.It is pretty unique as you don't see it but on Anschutz match rifles.

Very nice. I'm surprised there aren't more custom .22's. By far the most fun to shoot.
