I had a weakness awhile back and bought this 219 Donaldson Wasp. I really hate the stock, but the rest is in good shape. Do you think the present stock can be saved? What else would you do to it?

I may just sell it and buy one of Bailey Bradshaw's falling block receivers and just build another.
Help!

I'd put a nice cheekpiece on it!
Sorry, couldn't resist!

The question is, do you think it could be hurt?

My goodness, what an awful thing to do to a fine old action. Still, It looks like pretty good work and I am sure someone was proud as a new papa with it at one time. I would say it is time for another reincarnation to make another new papa proud.

You won't have any trouble getting shed of it should you decide to go with one of Mr. Bradshaw's actions. The Hepburn is a desirable action.

Best,

well - you could paint it black Big Grin but i don't think i'd even try to save it. by the time you cut that rollover down you'll have to rest your chin on the stock to get to the scope. & the wood is rather plain anyway. otherwise that is a fine old piece. what make is the scope??

Glenn,
I think it is going on the market. The scope is a 24x Tasco. This thing was built in the 70s and has been a closet queen.

Butch:

I would be interested in it if you decide to sell it.

SDH has one in classified, see if you could fit a steel grip cap in there somewhere and have wood in the right place to reshape it. Then Id take a band saw and belt grinder to it. Doesnt look like it though wont be much of a grip left to work with after you cut that ugly grip off at that spacer.
That stock is hideous. Would be a neat rifle to restock though

Well, the forearm isn't too bad, but on the slim chance that you could find a piece of wood to match it, I'd make another buttstock for it. The Remington singleshots are tough to get good looking buttstocks for but it can be done, particularly if it has the pistol grip. I'm afraid it's the only salvation for an otherwise fine old rifle.
