Sounds a lot like my .500 Jeffrey. I built mine on a BRNO 602 action and it is a honey.

Tom, if you want the most power, go to a 500 MDM. It's a full-size 300 RUM opened up to 50 caliber.

Here's my 500 MDM, built on a Win 70 CRF action with a 20" barrel. You can get 2,450 fps with a 500gr bullet.

I remember those rifles. Have you talked to Michael458? He's not on AR anymore, but he developed the B&M cartridges. SSK makes them, and Accurate Innovations supplies the steel-bedded stocks. Quite a reasonable build, actually.

Two things:

1. buy RUM brass first, so you actually have some in hand.

2. the kimbers I have actually handled needed a 375 H&H pushed base first into the magazine to fit like a 721. They are not a true magnum length action.

Stick with the Winchester WSM as the donor. It's what they build the B&Ms on and anything else may present problems.

Mine is a 458B&M on a Win WSM SS Mdl 70. I had a 20" bbl installed but would opt for 18" if doing it today. It is a fantastic rifle and with proper loads has become a one rifle battery. I have made or have been present for one shot kills on Ele, Hippo, Croc, Lion, Leopard, Zebra (2), etc.

I too have the .500 MDM, similar to Beib's rifle pictured above, just not near the fancy timber.

I easily get 2450fps with 450gn C.E.B's and shot/stopped a lot of Buff and feral Oxen with mine, very effectively.

The .500 B&M is the intermediate between the .50 B&M and the big .500 MDM.
A very well thought-out and useful chambering.
16-18" barrels are all that's needed but personally I still prefer 20".

I too recommend the Winchester platform.
The coned breech allows reliable feed and function with the "flat-nosed" Safari Raptors.
I'm not that familiar with the kimbers.

Best to talk to the good folks at SSK.

Best of luck with your build.

Not sure what the actual magazine length is for the Kimber but the M70 WSM action has a 3.1" internal magazine length and that is what the 50 B&M (2.25" case length) was designed for. Save the $200 and go with the M70 WSM action.
