The hell you say. Looks pretty nice to me. Not every custom has to be a classic bolt action. Regards, Bill

I agree 100%, Bill.

However, the point of the thread was about "pretty rifles" not being used.

In regards to that, I say that all rifles are made to shoot. There is nothing wrong with taking measures to prevent unnecessary abuse to a rifle but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take it out and use it.

This .300 H&H single shot rifle has been on several hunts covering four states and it may go with me on a Colorado elk hunt this year. I'm still not sure if I want to take it or one of my rifles in .405 Grenadier. The determination will be made on the probability of having to make a long shot. If long range is in the mix the .300 H&H will be the choice.

This is my first true custom rifle. It gets hunted a lot and it is also a very well used target rifle. Frankly, competition target shooting is a lot harder on my best rifles than hunting is.

Something like a dozen or 15 people were involved in this rifle in some way. It gets configured many different ways depending on what needs to be done.

There are a lot of nice custom rifles pictured on this thread, most of which if they were all scratched up, dented, and blue worn plum off I would love to have...A custom rifle is a custom rifle and like my old rope horse, he may be worn and hollow in the back but he has done his job for many years...What more can one ask.

A closet queen is just that, a closet queen, and a wasted gun, if you've seen one you have seen them all..Just my take on the subject.

Mostly I hunt with custom rifles that I build for myself, I don't abuse them but I sure don't baby them along, I treat them like a hunting rifle...Ive always thought the best thing to do with a custom rifle is whip some brush with it first day out and get rid of that nonsense..Every scratch carries a memory, even that break in period...True I can refinish and rechecker, reblue one of my rifles, but I don't, the memories of the surface damage, the wearing of blue, its all part of the experience..Not for everyone, just speaking for myself..
