It really is rough. Apparently Hoffman was not into fine finishes on the machine or hand finishing anything.

This sight would be easy to make and make much better than the original. By easy I mean that modern CNC equipment can make them easily in lots of 100. The drawings would need major revision to get rid of some of the mass and blockiness of the design. It would look better if more sculpted to remove some the corners and thick sections. Raymond Loewy could do wonders for its appearance. They would still be expensive side of $500 each. But they would be more custom than today's recipe customs that are usually built on a common action.
