What is your dream rifle on the Enfield, either one? I would like to rebore one to at least 9.3 X 62. If there is enough metal in the barrel I could go to 400 Whelen. No change in sights or stock. I want the ammo capacity. MAYBE a bolt bend and an addition of a QD mount for a Holosight. Won't need a scope for a hog at close range.

He has to mean the P14 or 17; SMLEs can't be converted to 9.3x62. Anyway, they have very thin barrels and I would not rebore them to 9.3; you will end up with a very light barrel. And the 30-06 has a longer case so you will have to set the barrel back anyway. 400? More of the same, a paper thin barrel. Use a new barrel. You don't need to bend the bolt; they are already low; unless you mean straighten out the dog leg.

An H&H rifle built on the P14 Enfield, as originally cataloged by H&H but chambered in .400H&H. .

I mean either the P14 or P17. I wasn't too clear. Good thinking DPCD.

That would be P14 (Pattern 14) or M1917. .

.416 Rigby, drop magazine (4+1), classic straightened bolt handle, original trigger, cock on opening conversion, "english" style stock, open sights only, with rear standing blade and two folding (I know maybe not good for much but sure like the looks!), barrel band swivel, barrel band front sight with flip up "night" sight. Dark, straight grained walnut stock with ebony forend tip, case colored grip cap, extended upper and lower tangs. Leather covered recoil pad. Oval, shadow line cheek piece. Barrel would be 26" long and profiled like the original Rigby .416's made on the magnum Mauser action. Forgot to mention, keep the original safety. I like the way it works and have used my stock Remington 1917 with one for several thousand rounds of shooting.

Either 9.3 or .400 Whelen will clean up a 30-06 chamber. An Enfield should probably be a 404.

I have 2 actions I am still deciding how to build. I think one will be a low-dollar .375 H&H, it is already drilled and tapped, so I will put a low-power scope on it. the other, I am wanting to use for something big, think it will be 500 A-square. it seems a waste of a resource to chamber an enfield on something short enough to readily fit in a mauser. both will be in laminated stocks, I won't mind if the stocks are neither trim nor svelte, the weight will help the recoil. I guess I have modest dreams....

RyanB, a 62mm long case will not likely clean up a chamber that originally was a cartridge 63mm long.

but the 9.3mm leade is larger in diameter than the 30-06 neck, so, maybe it works that way.

If the bore diameter of the 9.3 weren't larger than the neck diameter of the 30-06 that might be a problem. The shoulder is farther forward on the 9.3 and the case diameter is greater.

Check out Nick Hughes' in the above post. Well on its way to being the finest, most sophisticated and well detailed Enfield ever made. ACGG Life Member, since 1985

My dream Enfield? One that feeds correctly "Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid" -- Ronald Reagan "Ignorance of The People gives strength to totalitarians." Want to make just about anything work better? Keep the government as far away from it as possible, then step back and behold the wonderment and goodness.

Yes it is a great looking action. Saw it over at Nick Hughes shop in person, action by Tom Burgess if memory is correct. Nick is doing a great job of bringing these to life, very nice work by him! _____________________ Steve Traxson

I'm confused, as usual. If Tom Burgess did the work, how could Nick Hughes have done a great job of bringing it to life? What very nice work do Nick do?
