I don't get the "I hate cats" thing at all.

Maybe it has to do with that Freudian penis issue.

Our girl has similar abilities, and, hops like you would not believe: like top of the door from a squat.

EVERYTHING in Hawaii was brought over by someone else. Pigs, best targets over there, etc.

Birds came over from somewhere, brought by someone, just like cats.

Don't know exactly where Hawaiians came from, but, it was probably Samoa... pissers

Where can I buy a snake like that? I could keep him fed for a year on the feral cats around my house.

This thread is a hoot! Post one page one makes one three-sentence post and we're on page three. We've heard of towed cats, leashed cats, feral cats, "non-feral" hunting cats, non-hunting feral cats, domestic cats that are not feral and cats that act feral but "might be some little girl's pet".

Nobody ever did find out what mamba really meant. "Housecat" could well have meant a domestic cat gone feral. Long before the poor guy could clarify, the meanies here were jumping up screaming "guilty!" I only hope the screamers are given a more generous benefit of the doubt than poor mamba if they ever need it.

As to the comparer of crime stats, I would want to know a lot more about the methodology of the studies. Frequently people in that sector all interview the same respondents or same kind or respondents over and over. If everyone interviewed says they never sleep after 9 AM Sunday mornings, you might draw some wrong conclusions if you didn't know they all lived beside the same church bell.

There was a thread here a while back about a guy who lived on a farm and made a coe (or coehorn?) mortar that he fired into a field. Out at the impact point was a collection of tin plates with cat food. On days when farming was slow he'd wait for a cat to feed then let one off. He wrote that when a call landed with a clatter on a plate near a cat, the cat's reaction was a hoot to watch.

Ah well. Lets hear some more stories? I want to know if mamba chased the critter around his living room, neighbourhood or a farm field? Did he need over ten shots because he can't shoot, the cat was too fast or the gun too weak? Was it a pellet pistol or rifle? If a rifle was it one of the new fast ones, or an old slow popper? Maybe even an old Daisy BB gun? If it was on a lady's leash, I wanna know if he got lucky with the lady after?

I too love song birds...feed them 2lbs. of bird seed and fill their water tub every morning out in my front yard. I also love my cats, and do keep them indoors.

But Mr. Humbarger, may I respectfully submit to you that hating any animal which is just living the way God made, equipped, and programmed it, is not good for you? Hatred is a stress neither physically nor mentally a benefit or desirable attribute for any man.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't do whatever you have to, after thinking it through, to correct a situation. But hatred is neither necessary, nor beneficial to anything or anyone.

Best wishes,

Well put, but, I love my dogs and cats as though they were my children and try my best to keep them from bothering anyone. I do not understand what kind of mentality would even consider shooting a cat with a pellet gun, but, there are a LOT of cowards, perverts and psychopaths out there.

Shoot "Wicca", my elderly Persian or "Lily" my lovely young Rottweiler and on two different gun forums I have encountered individuals who boast about doing exactly this, 24Hr. was the worst, and I would be VERY hurt and heartbroken.

The one who did it, would "sleep with the fishes".

And then there are the teenage sons-of-bitches who gut shot approximately 50 deer in our neighborhood and took nothing, not horns, not hide, nothing. They were caught, and while awaiting trial killed about as many more...and got caught again. Then still before their trial, they gut shot my 30+ year old horse while he was in his run at about 1:00 a.m one morning. they didn't get caught for that one, but it was the same M.O. as all the others, and in this same area.

On trial they were found guilty of shooting all the deer and sentenced to two years probation. No fines, no firearms confiscation, nothing else.

Well, I don't hate them, but I understand what has to be done with those little C-suckers some day to protect society and to see true justice done. With any luck, someone else will do it.

Im not much of a gardener but the the time i do spend out in the yard I often used to be accompanied by a robin (eurpoean one, much smaller than the US variety), this little guy was incredibly tame and would come within a foot or two of me looking for anything interesting or a bug lunch.

Sadly shortly after my wife aquired two cats I found it dead and mangled amongst the flowers.

WOW interesting personal attacks from the cat lovers...

Me I won't lower myself to that level but I'll share this with you...

I do have a major issue with cat owners that do not control their animals though.

Last year everyday for months there was at least 3 - 4 piles of cat crap from different cats on my back lawn.

My son at the time was just 2 years old and he liked to play outside, I had to go out every morning to clean up after domestic cats let out to do their thing by irresponsible cat owners before he could go out.

I finally had to buy a Have a Hart live trap and within days successfully trapped 4 cats and took them to the local animal control center.

Don't know if the owners found their cats or not and do not care one way or another.

I haven't had another cat crap in my yard since if it starts again the trap will be coming out again...

I don't advocate shooting anyone's pet but cat owners need to keep their pets indoors or on a leash. In the USA house cats are the number one predator of songbirds. Maybe the answer would be to mandate the same kind of licensing required for dogs and then charge the owners a "songbird" tax.

US FWS - House cat predation

quote:
Scientific studies actually show that each year, cats kill hundreds of millions of migratory songbirds. In 1990, researchers estimated that "outdoor" house cats and feral cats were responsible for killing nearly 78 million small mammals and birds annually in the United Kingdom.

University of Wisconsin ornithologist, Dr. Santley Temple estimates that 20-150 million songbirds are killed each year by rural cats in Wisconsin alone.

Feline predation is not "natural." Cats were domesticated by the ancient Egyptians and taken throughout the world by the Romans. Cats were brought to North America in the 1800's to control rats. The "tabby" that sits curled up on your couch is not a natural predator and has never been in the natural food chain in the Western Hemisphere.

Studies indicate the contrary. A muzzle would work better.

Idea for a bumper sticker: "Save 1000 songbirds. Muzzle your cat!"

We can't all be lucky enough to make one shot kills every time, like your glorious self.

It always amazes me how they can jump 6 feet in the air, vertically, when hit. dancing
