G3 22 conversion kit for $539

I see a G3 conversion kit to 22 LR for sale at $539 NIB with 2 mags.

I'm tempted to get it because I have never seen them for sale before. It would let me use 22 to practice with my primary rifles. I'd save a ton of money on 308, but....do you think I might find one cheaper.

Worth it? what do you think?

Thanks for any info.

From what I've heard...

There's not much point in shooting a 22lr out of a centerfire gun, for a number of reasons:

Wrong twist rate,
Excessive leading,
Wrong bore diameter,
Dirt and lead in the gas tube (22 conversions are blowback so the tubes don't self clean like they're designed to)

These are the reasons I don't have a conversion, But I HAVE NOT experienced them myself...

The price is high but has dropped from $899 to $539. I break even after firing about 2500 rds of 22 instead of 308.

Don't know the accuracy potential.

Any thoughts on whether it would be worth sinking that much money into?

My primary reason for buying it would be so that I could play with my (usual 308) rifle at home using low noise ammo instead of 308. I'm always consious of alerting all my neighbors when I shoot cenetrfire ammo.....

BUY IT thumb
I have one and I am familar with several that friends have. They are VERY GOOD. They are VERY ACCURATE as accurate as most 22 cal sporters.
They are VERY RELIABLE.

For those of you that do not know, you insert a seperate 22 cal. rifle bbl inside the 308 rifle bbl. Then replace the bolt assembly with a the 22 bolt assembly, load the grey 22 cal. 20 round magazines, turn the iron sight to 4 [meaning 400 meters, if you have a scope set it on your 400 meter zero] and start shooting.
You should be pretty close to a 25 yard zero.
They are loads of fun. You are shooting your H&K 91 for the price of a 22, and you can do it much quieter and in places that shooting full power 308 is impossible.
Many years ago we used to have 22cal "BATTLE RIFLE " matches at a place shooting center fire rifle rounds was not possible.
It was loads of fun.
The "KIT" for the H&K 223 works just as good but is not quite as accurate because you are shooting 22 rimfire bullets through a bbl designed for .223 jacketed bullets. Only if you tried hunting small game at a distance would it matter.

The kit for the MP5 9mm is like the 308 kit in that it has the 22cal insert bbl.

All of these kits are made first class in the German tradation.
I have also shot a kit for the FN-Fal made by Erma that was great too.

Mssgn the kit will pay for itself in just a range session or two.
I can highly recommend them.

Yep that looks like it.

Thanks NE 450 No2. If I can't beat the price elsewhere online I'll order it. Can you tell me what you feel a fair price would be?

Feel free to email me if you don't want to post what you paid for yours

I cannot remember what I paid for mine maybe $250 or $300, but it was at least 25 years ago!!
I have been an H&K shooter for a long time.
I really like the 22 conversion kit, and the H&K 91. Big Grin
It is well worth the $539 in todays dollars.
Just think how much a H&K 91 would cost in 22LR. Eeker

I sent emails on two adds for used ones but struck out bnoth times. I see new ones with one mag offered for $500 and with two mags for $539. I have some cash coming from a work bonus and I think when it arrives, I'll go for the 2nd option. BUT if anyone has a used one to part with for less than that pelase let me know!

Bought the conversion kit and had some fun for a few months but now its not being used. I paid $539 plus shipping (+/- $550) but I'd deliver it to you (in the continental US) for $499

I'd rather put the funds into a new project than have the conversion kit.

Saigas are great shotguns. The price has actually dropped on them back to about $500 after spiking to about $800 when there was talk that they would be banned from import into the US.

The conversion kit truly drops in. Works great to turn the 308 into a 22 seni auto, even ejects the 22 spent cases out to the right while cycling the next one to fire. But since I started reloading my own cast lead 308 ammo it is just as cheap for me to shoot my own 308 instead of 22 - so I have decided to part with my 22 conversion kit.

Taxes are coing due so I' mwilling to take a loss and let it go for $475 face to face in NY or $499 shipped to you.
