Want to have the ability to be more precise than a shotgun can offer. The only legitimate reason I can see against the 223 is overpenetration. I have to replace a window in my house this weekend (no I did not shoot through it...... Smiler) and will get some good sized pieces of plaster & wood lath. Will test my 9mm pistol and the 223 Varmint rounds to see how they penetrate through 2-layers of the stuff.

I understand your point but in a firefight precision is relative. Inside an average 15 x 20 room, "minute of bad guy" is not a tight spec.

Tiggertate,

If that bad guy is holding my kid (I realize that this is unlikely, but not impossible), minute of forehead does require more precision.

I understand the desire, believe me. But you're really not ever going to shoot at a bad guy that's holding your kid up in front of you unless your making a movie. It just doesn't work out that way in real life.

Anyway, lets hope neither opinion ever has to be proven.

Tiggertate,

Like I stated before, it is an unlikely scenario. However, to say that it just does not work out this way is not so. Last year I watched a policeman on the nightly news take out a bad guy who was holding a hostage. Unlikely yes, but so is the odds of me even using a gun for defense/protection. I have made the choice to put my 2nd amendmant rights into action, I now must be prepared for the...... unlikely.

I also hope the the same as you, that this does not happen in my home with the rest of my family in it.

BTW, have you ever read the FBI's study on the infamous Miami gun battle. Granted it was a street fight, but definately CQB. You can go http://foia.fbi.gov/foiaindex/shooting.htm here to read it yourself.
