I have a quick question, I will be hunting whitetails in October, in Alberta, and was wondering, to pay for my licences and tags, do I or would you recommend me to pay in cash (U.S. Dollars or Canadian?) or use a credit card? my last question, when I tip my outfitter...which is more preferred?, U.S. cash or Canadian, or just credit card, the hunt is fully paid for already so all I need are those expenses, I will be driving there in my truck and the plan is to bring my animal back to the U.S. which the outfit said I could do with my license in hand. | ||

Most of the Canadian Guides I deal with usually ask licenses be paid for in Canadian funds, but if you can use your credit card in advance, be sure to check your cards fees if any apply. Tipping in local funds makes it easier on the Guide, but I'm sure if there are options, they are cool with what works best for their clients. You might ask your Guide what's preferred on your tags/license. Good luck on your hunt! Licence and tag fees are paid to the provincial game departments and are therefore paid in Canadian dollars. So they usually prefer Canadian cash and in some cases you can just use your credit card, which is the case in Alberta. Your credit card company will of course charge you a fee on exchange from US to Canadian funds. As for tips, when the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar we prefer tips in Canadian dollars and when the US dollar is worth more than the Canadian dollar we prefer it in US dollars. Just like Skyline said. I have been whitetail hunting in Ontario for the last 5 or 6 years and the landowner got mad last year because I paid him in Canadian funds.Wow, never again! | |||

Never again, you mean not paying in Canadian funds or not going back with the same landowner? Of course he got mad because he wanted the extra money from the exchange rate. As of today, 9-10-14 one dollar US is worth $1.09 Canadian. I am going to Saskatchewan this November and the exchange rate will determing how I pay, of course the outfitter wants the balance in cash. I was in Ontario quite a few years ago and the exchange rate was up around one US to 1.52 Canada. You can bet I took that into account when tipping. | |||

When I buy by Canadian licenses I go to the vendor pay in what ever I have in my wallet at the time US or Canadian. Get proper change and go on my way. Making change is more difficult for them when I hand them some of both. | |||
