I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for eastern Canada Mose hunting. Most outfits seem pretty affordable, and I may try to do this in 2017.

For a reasonable chance of getting a great (over 50" spread etc) try to draw a tag in Maine or New Brunswick. Neither are easy draws. For an otc tag, and subsequently lesser bulls, go with provinces Ontario to Newfoundland. OMM Outfitters, or Maine Whitetail Adventures. OMM works both Maine & NB. For an OTC tag hunt, you should really do your due diligence. I am sure others here will offer some good advice. A well done hunt (non-road hunt) for a big bull can be an extremely exciting experience. Good luck

NF is the go to place for OTC moose hunting. Expect to pay around $5000 if you want a 40" or better bull an it will be a fly-in hunt. Forget the road side lodges if antlers is your interest. Sure they may produce a nice bull once in awhile but t h e fact is they offer too many hunts. Overall you have a >85%success rate anywhere on the island to get meat. Be prepare for a physical hunt nothing like a truck hunt for mulies in the west. Walking is tough and expect to get wet.
I killed 5 moose in NF in 5 hunts the last 2 were fly in trips. If I had to offer just bit of advice on picking an outfit it would be: look for one that has access to a river to hunt from boats or canoe. Hiking is very tough anywhere on the island be it to hunt or pack meat. Know in advance the outfits may offer helicopter meat retrieval but it may not happen until several days later an the weather could be mild.

Thank you for the advice. There is a lot of sub-4K offers from lots of guide services on the net. It seems like it's $5-6K plus for any options that are worthwhile.

I don't want a truck hunt, or to be crowded with other hunters.

I need a bigger budget!

Newfoundland is one of the most enjoyable hunts I have ever been on. The people are great, the food was good, and as long as the weather cooperates you will probably get a moose. We also took a little time to tour Gros Morne National park. Beautiful place.

Check with Mark Young booking agent he deals a lot with the Maine lottery and moose hunting in Maine. Friends Dad shot a nice moose in Maine that Mark helped set up

Surely I am not the final answer on this but what I found was most if not all the lower dollar hunts will be drive in FOR BOTH YOU AND LOCALS. My first 2 trips were like that as I used the logic " well the fly in camps are still hauling numbers of hunters into the same areas where they have established camps, thus bulls will not be any larger there either".
I killed moose every time I went to NF but the first 2 were paddle horns and my buddy killed 2 cows ( they were bigger bodied than my paddle bulls) I got 40" plus on the next fly ins.
Check Efford's whom I used booked him at Harrisburg, Pa sport show last year's hunt was a good fly in got a nice bull and paid a show price of $4500 all in tags, flight in to camp etc. but I took my meat out in 1/4s cut it up back home in Pennsylvania.
Good Luck

I could swing $4500, but that is about the max.

I did a lot of research on my moose hunt next year in NF and I booked with Ironbound Outfitters. I saw the same thing everyone else here mentioned, you want a fly in hunt if you want a good trophy (and obviously that's not a guarantee, either). If all you are going for is an experience and meat, I don't think there are a lot of bad choices in NF, but I've never been there before so I don't know! I'll be there the 2nd-3rd week of October which should be a little late for the rut, but we shall see how it turns out. Good luck with your hunt, I know I am looking forward to mine!

I've hunted Newfoundland with Crabbes River Outfitters and had a great hunt, taking a giant of a Black Bear and 2.5 year old Moose. It is a drive to camp hunt (they take you in) but it's back in the wilderness. For those in moderately good condition, going over the next ridge is where the mature bulls are. Some can and have been called into bow and rifle range but if your hunting for antlers, prepare to walk unless they're rutting. We only wore rubber type boots and didn't have any issues getting wet. However, some of my clients were rained on a couple of days this past Fall. I have references and pics should you care to have them. There are some good quality Eastern Canada Moose in the area. Hunts are 5 days that includes all ground transportation; lodging, meals, field dressing and taking your moose to the locker for processing and your license for moose. Cost is $4,000 but currently I only have maybe two spots open in late October. They start hunting Caribou November. LDK

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
