Hi Peter
The "Own the Podium" is just a name and is a bit odd but I think I remember other countries calling their programs "Going for The Gold" etc. It's about time Canada has funded the athletes so they can have great facilities to practice on.
Thanks for all your fine comments on the games and yes we do have a lot to be proud of as do all the athletes that competed in the games. The USA came out number one for total medals so you have a lot to be proud of as well.
Take good care
Dave

While I don't go for medal counting, I think that the Canadians did pretty well, considering the population size (approx 35 million). I liked the closing ceremonies. Probably the best Winter Olympics I have seen. Seems like there was plenty of French spoken!
Good job you guys!
Peter

dancing dancing dancing dancing

spot-on- apparently, there was complaining coming from Quebec, reported on the news in Ontario according to my mom there. A-Holes - but typical.
The Quebec-born athletes are a cut-above some of the rest of that Province, that's for sure.

I must confess to be rather disappointed in the grim faces of the Americans receiving the Silver Medal. If these professional;s don't like it, then DON'T PLAY. Let college players play. It was the Americans who pushed to allow pros to play in the Olympics after getting beat. Plenty of others would be happy to get a silver medal. End of rant!
Peter.

IO agree that you should be happy to get a silver, but keep in mind- the second place winner in team sports is a loser. The silver is the only medal that you lose to win. Silver in a ski event means you were second place down the hill, silver in hockey or curling means you lost. It's almost like teams woudl rather win to get bronze than lose to get silver.

Sorry, I don't understand. Downhill skiing is still a race. The fact that it is not "side by side" doesn't matter, at least to me. The silver medalist still lost the race.
Peter.

Skiing isn't a team sport.

Hey guys, as a competitive athlete (within my own capabilities) I can tell you that a silver medal, or a bronze, or a fifth place for that matter (ask me why I think so) can be quite the achievement. Or it can really feel like you lost. Being successful at that level depends on so many factors. If you can be up there and compete, I tip my hat to you.

So Frans, how did we do in Biathlon? Didn't see any results posted and one of those events I always figured Canadians should be really good at.
