As you can see in the other thread, Canuck32 has taken the initiative to get the ball rolling and has made the following arrangements....

Everyone,
Just got off the phone with the VP of the Rocky range. The dates availible are April 28-29, 2007. So I went ahead and booked them. There is going to be a defensive pistol shoot on the 29th from noon till @ 3 pm but the gun range can still be used concurrently, and if you like you are able to participate in the defensive pistol shoot.
There is a cost associated with the use $1.00/day per person ($2.00/person) for insurance purposes only.
There is camping room at the range but there is no power or water/sewer. There are several campgrounds within 5 miles of Rocky who have full hookups if needed. Also there are several hotels in Rocky if people prefer. I'll get a list in the next day or two.

Here is a map to the range:
http://www.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Rocky+Mountain+Ho...pn=0.101216,0.344009 The range is on the west side of Range Road 80 about 2 kms south of Hwy 11

So, how many of you that showed interest previously can actually make that date? It would be nice to get an idea of a potential head count so that we can gauge how much effort to put into this.

As with a few others, its might be the worst weekend of the spring for me, BUT, thats just because I already have work travel commitments on either side of that weekend. I CAN make it to RMH though, but probably not til Saturday, noon or 1:00'ish depending on how early I get on the road. Smiler

So, what about the rest of you? And for those that can make it, what can you bring for rifles? (all are welcome, but would like to gauge the number of big bores as well. Smiler )

Also, we can start giving some thought to what we might want to do (kinds of targets, fun shoots, a collective BBQ????).

Or maybe just show up and play it by ear?

I have been super-slammed at work, and will be for the forseeable future....any volunteers to help organize?

Cheers
Canuck

ps: I'll bring my 470 Mbogo, 416 Taylor and 45/70 (gotta have one!), with enough ammo to share a little. Wink Smiler Big Grin

Busy as heck, but I will do what I can to help.

I will bring a .416 Rigby, the damn thing should be back from the gunsmith by then.

Of course I *had* a .375 H&H, and undoubtedly I will need not much encouragement to tell how it got stolen, and how the RCMP is failing to act on my complaint.... but not in writing, not yet.

BTW, I might also not arrive until Saturday morning.

I'd love to shoot a double, .470 or some such. That alone would make it worth the drive. Other than that, maybe a speed shooting drill, getting three rounds into three targets, the first one at x yards, the second one closer, and the third at 20 feet. Something like that to simulate a charge....?? Just a thought. Should be good to bring out any flaws that the action of my rifle still has. Heck, I better start loading!!

By the way, would anybody be opposed to my taking some pictures and doing a write-up of the event for a magazine?

Its OK with me...as long as the 470 Mbogo gets a little press time, its all good.

It looks like I am working that weekend. Also my wife is due for our third child 2 weeks prior so getting away would involve some shooting, even if I was not working. I will keep this in mind if anything changes though.

Well, I am glad to see that the "Canuck Bubbas" are going to have a big bore shoot. wave Today we had another succesful shoot here at the house. Glad to report that no one was gored by either water jugs or grapefruit. Also, all of the Tannerite was "stopped" by accurate rifle fire.

How y'all have as much fun when you have your shoot.

Frans, Mark: Dave's right, although I generally try not to advertise where I live on the internet! Wink I'll be in Calgary for the big show, Easter weekend, for sure. I could pick up rifles beforehand and drop them off at the show. I may also be in Calgary once or twice before then.

I wouldn't go that far. Smiler As I alluded to in the top post above, I am WAY short on time to do any "organizing". I can only take credit for the idea (Canuck32 and I tossed the idea around a little via PM) and a couple threads to check on interest. Canuck32 has done the bulk of the organizing by finding us a great place and booking it for us!! At this point I am just shooting for showing up...

Anyone else interested in organizing some events/fun shoots/bbq, etc, etc, etc, please speak up. Smiler

Cheers,
Canuck

End of April may be a little late for us here. Last year we were 1/2 done seeding by end of April. I have some rifles in a safe in Cranbrook. Last time I was there we came home on US 2, the scenic route, so left guns in Canada. Chris,I will send you a pm with details. Thanks, Mark

Well, I just got this wonderful message from my smitty:

The stock is installed and bedded . The extraction problem is still there.

On the bolt face of your bolt is a chamfer ( like a bevel machined on from the factory) . This is wrong and should NOT be there . This is what is causing you the grief . [....]
Solution : you would require a new bolt on warranty (Good luck) . Another solution but not the first choice would be to get the bolt tig welded by building up and then remachining it. This can be done so that the lugs remain the proper temper in the steel.
I talked to the CZ inmporter in Canada and was told that they could supply with an exchange bolt in 375 , on which I would have to cut the bolt face and head space. That would be a good job. Or we could send this bolt to Czechoslovakia, approx two months waiting time.)

Looks like my .416 may not be ready for action in time. On the upside, RCMP called me two days ago, and appeared to be initiating some action on the stolen .375...

@#$%!#$#@!!! I'm having a load of fun with all this. killpc

Attendance list thus far:

Canuck
Canuck32
Axle
470Mbogo
Trump
Frans
Calgarychef
Grizzly Adams
Scruffy
Graylake

9 so far...4 from BC and 6 from AB. Did I miss anyone?

I was definitely hoping for more, but that should make it worthwhile. Hopefully a few more will join in as we get closer to the date. There were about 8 other guys from AB that expressed an interest on the other thread but haven't chimed in here yet.

For those of you that are going to be looking for a hotel in Rocky there are several choices. Some of the bigger ones are listed below:
Best Western RMH 403-844-3100, Toll free 800-528-1234 (Boston pizza is across the street)
Tamarack Motor Inn 403-845-5252
Walking Eagle Inn 403-845-3685

I have organized some Buffalo on a bun for Saturday so bring your appitites.

Is anyone interested in trying the ZIM Ph test course? I think I can set up a decent one if there is interest.

Thanks Lonny. Smiler

Assuming the PH testing course is the one Terry Carr posted up on African Hunting (I think the link is still in Africa Reference info), I'm definitely interested. I am sure 470 Mbogo, Chris and Axle are to.

Do you have to reserve a spot at a campground?

Don't forget about the Super 8 by the BPs and across from the Tim Hortons. I've stayed there a dozen times or so...its not bad.

Cheers,

Sounds like something I'd like to try...

D$#! I hope my .416 is ready by then... The only issue being that I need to spend a day putting tools away before I can reach the reloading bench. Now if I had my .375 HH back I could just buy some cheap ammo for the occasion...

I just heard my .416 should be ready by end of April! If I have time to check the new plinking loads I'm not sure..., and I don't really know if the stock may need some adjustment yet.

I hope to have the promised NECG ghost ring sight for the CZ550 by then, but they are not responding to my e-mails right now...
