Congratulations on a super ram, a fine hunt and perhaps most significantly the determination to see it through! After a sheep hunt in the mountains, it's hard not to feel as though you can handle whatever life happens to throw your way. Nice pictures too, what camera where you using/packing? Were you able to bring the horns and cape back with you, and have you decided on how you will mount him?

Hi All, Thanks for the nice comments. The Mackenzie Mountain backpack hunt does put you to the test. Bill, thank you for the compliments. My camera is a point and shoot Canon, just 7.1 MP. It's small and light, looks like it works fine. I was able to carry the cape and horns back for a full body mount. I had a duffle bag big enough to hold my backpack, and a tuffpack with the rifle. On the way back, all of my gear, and the ram, was able to fit in both containers. No extra bag charge! Gracy travel worked miracles. While every other hunter had to overnight in Edmonton on the return, they were able to route me through Inuvik (on a globe, it looks like it's on the Arctic Ocean), and home that same day. Very nice. Good on you, Jack! I'm on my way back from Blackstone in the Yukon. Our camp wasn't so lucky. I busted it for more than 10 days and never saw a great ram, and only got to within 600 yards before our best "barely legal" ram winded us. The feet are tired, the back is sore and I'm almost home. I was weary, depressed, and a little angry towards the end of the trip, but just getting home to see the wife and kids has got me cheery. I did finally get a grizzly, though. Very few sheep were brought into camp, I'm thinking less than 50% success.....don't know exactly why. Judging from the massive herd of 6 year olds I saw out there, in a couple of years there ought to be some sheep to shoot? I just don't know, sometimes you just don't connect. We were up to our eyeballs in bears, though. Don

Don, What a bummer you did not get your ram - though the Griz is very nice consolation prize. Sounds like you put in the time and effort. That should be rewarded. As much I pretend otherwise, with this outlay of time, money, and pain, it is sure nice to come back with what you are after. Any plans to go back? We should compare notes on outfitters if you are, or just chat anyway. PM sent with my number. Thanks for the update, and again sorry it did not turn your wayy. Great post and even better ram. Post pics when you get the mount back. ----------------------------------------- "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. -Henry David Thoreau, Walden
