Bill CCongratulations on a super ram, a fine hunt and perhaps most significantly the determination to see it through! After a sheep hunt in the mountains, it's hard not to feel as though you can handle whatever life happens to throw your way.
Nice pictures too, what camera where you using/packing?
Were you able to bring the horns and cape back with you, and have you decided on how you will mount him?

Jack D BoldHi All,
Thanks for the nice comments. The Mackenzie Mountain backpack hunt does put you to the test.
Bill, thank you for the compliments. My camera is a point and shoot Canon, just 7.1 MP. It's small and light, looks like it works fine.
I was able to carry the cape and horns back for a full body mount. I had a duffle bag big enough to hold my backpack, and a tuffpack with the rifle.
On the way back, all of my gear, and the ram, was able to fit in both containers. No extra bag charge!
Gracy travel worked miracles. While every other hunter had to overnight in Edmonton on the return, they were able to route me through Inuvik (on a globe, it looks like it's on the Arctic Ocean), and home that same day. Very nice.
Thanks again!

AzizHello Jack
Congratulations, what a beautiful ram. I know you really work for these sheep; I got mine in the same mountains with Stan Stevens.

Don BGood on you, Jack! I'm on my way back from Blackstone in the Yukon. Our camp wasn't so lucky. I busted it for more than 10 days and never saw a great ram, and only got to within 600 yards before our best "barely legal" ram winded us. The feet are tired, the back is sore and I'm almost home. I was weary, depressed, and a little angry towards the end of the trip, but just getting home to see the wife and kids has got me cheery. I did finally get a grizzly, though. Very few sheep were brought into camp, I'm thinking less than 50% success.....don't know exactly why. Judging from the massive herd of 6 year olds I saw out there, in a couple of years there ought to be some sheep to shoot? I just don't know, sometimes you just don't connect. We were up to our eyeballs in bears, though.

Jack D BoldDon,
What a bummer you did not get your ram - though the Griz is very nice consolation prize.
Sounds like you put in the time and effort. That should be rewarded. As much I pretend otherwise, with this outlay of time, money, and pain, it is sure nice to come back with what you are after.
Any plans to go back? We should compare notes on outfitters if you are, or just chat anyway. PM sent with my number.
Thanks for the update, and again sorry it did not turn your wayy.
Cheers

22WRFCongratulations!
I would be interested to hear about some of the gear you chose to take (besides the rifle). Clothing, packs, etc.

22,
Here is most of it:
Pack - Osprey 7500
Bag - Marmot 850 fill 0 degree
Pad - Therma rest Prolite 4
Tent - Hilleberg Jannu
Eye enhancers - Leica rangefinder 10x42
Base layer - 1 smartwoool bottom, 2 tees
Mid layer - 2 pullover fleece, one with wind stop
Insulate layer - Beyond Fleece jacket and rivers west jacket (unneeded but forecast was daily rain)
Pants - Mammut Champ hikers
Boots - Meindl by Cabelas
Socks - 4 pair bridgedale liners, 3 pair wool
Rain Gear - Arcteryx Jacket and pants
Head gear - Wool toque, turtle fur skull cap, baseball hat
Gloves - 1 pair light windproof, one pair OR insulate
Personal gear - headlamp, knife, para cord, duct tape, first aid kit, camera, multi tool, spare batteries, 1 pound coffee, drink mix, cliff bars, 20 rounds ammo.
I think thats about it. Each piece seemed light, but add it up and it was a load. The gear worked as advertised, that's a good thing. Let me know if you need anymore info.
Thanks for asking!
