KENORA — Five tourist outfitting businesses in Northwestern Ontario have been fined a total of $64,000 for bear-hunting violations.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has just released details of the outcomes of a series of cases heard by justices of the peace in 2024 and 2025 in Kenora and Red Lake.

Court was told TImberlane Lodge of Ear Falls had unlawfully sold non-resident black bear hunting validation certificates to three operators in the area —
Little Camp Canada Inc., Rocky Shore Adventures Ltd., and Canada North Lodge, facilitating unlawful bear hunts that were subsequently sold to non-resident hunters.

Timberlane Lodge pleaded guilty to unlawfully selling black bear hunting validation certificates and issuing black bear hunting validation certificates to non-residents, and was fined $17,500.

The stiffest fine, $23,000, was imposed on Canada North Lodge after it pleaded guilty to unlawfully buying black bear hunting validation certificates and hunting bears without a licence.

Little Canada Camp Inc. and Rocky Shores Adventures pleaded guilty to the same offences, and were fined $12,000 and $10,000 respectively.

Court also heard that Keeblo Lodge Inc. violated the conditions of its licence to provide bear hunting services by facilitating unlawful hunts by Canada North Lodge to non-resident hunters.

Kabeelo Lodge was found guilty at trial and fined $1,500.
