Just going over my options for exporting my sheep in a few weeks (if things go well). Had no problems at all last year bringing home trophy from NWT. Hoping for the same coming out of BC. Hoping they can plug it and provide necessary paperwork same day? (flight leaves at 2:30 pm) Anyone have any experience having their own trophies inspected in Fort Nelson? any advice is appreciated.

the best is to contact the office. Region 7B (Peace) For general information, Fort St. John regional office telephone: 250 787-3411 or the local CO Micah Kneller ENV Peace Fort Nelson Conservation Officer (Fort Nelson) 250 787-3291 email Micah.Kneller@gov.bc.ca inspection: Fort Nelson CI’s in Fort Nelson will be done by a contractor who will travel to Fort Nelson periodically throughout the hunting season. To find out when the CI dates occur and to schedule an appointment please phone the contractor Rod Backmeyer at 250-787-0588 hope it will help Bobby, and of course have a safr safe and good luck hunting.

I killed my Stone with Barry T a few years ago and I had my ram plugged in Fort ST John by a guy named Basil Szoo. Could be another option for you if Nelson doesn't work out. Best of luck! One of the best places i've ever hunted!

Thanks Jim. They gave me the number to a guy named Rod. I will coordinate with him. Do you remember what paperwork he gave you at that time? Just want to make sure I have everything in order for Fish & Wildlife. thanks

I don't remember for sure, but the paper had how old the ram was, the typical paperwork that ya receive

I made some phone calls, Rod Backmeyer's name came up again for Compulsory inspection. I had a less than satisfactory experience from a contract Inspector based out of Fort Nelson a few years ago. It was a much smoother process when it was done right out of the COs office. Govt efficiency. I asked to be transferred to Conservation officer service, Ft.Nelson COs listed as Joel Klein and Chris Hamlin local # 250-774-5991. Micah Kneller has transferred to FSJ. I asked a few more questions about permits, was transferred to BC Fish and Wildlife Permits Noella Van de Kamp, and had to leave a voice mail. That would be your best bet for info on getting your sheep back to California. When are you through Fort Nelson? Interested in a BS over a beer?

Sorrry just saw these replies, was out hunting the last few weeks Was only in Fort Nelson for a couple hours before I had to depart. hunted with Art Thompson / Gundahoo. Had a good trip, got my ram after a lot of crappy weather. I will post a report and video soon. Got a hold of Rod but he was not able to meet me. Missed him by a day. Oh well. I agree that it seems like this is something that can/should be done right out the office.

Sounds like you missed the CI in person due to him not being available, but you can generally preschedule a CI for the end date of your hunt if you don't plan to fly out early once tagged. Good to know Micah is now in Fort St John, he's a very good CO and guy, he busted some bison poachers I called in. Option B is many professional taxidermist outfits in BC will handle the CI, I use Deryn Eakin closer to our territory in Burns Lake (a long way from Fort Nelson, but an example), he handles the CI and gets it done ASAP. If it weren't for the CI would be a piece of cake to fly home with your trophy with your pink sheet from the outfitter's declaration. Look forward to seeing your ram and hearing the story.

thanks for the info. I contacted the CI before I left on my trip and told him what day I would be in Fort Nelson. But he simply wasn't going to be there that day, so it didn't matter. I didn't know a taxidermist could do it. I'll keep that in mind next time around. here is a write up I did for the hunt http://forums.accuratereloadin...8321043/m/1221057312

Looks good and like a good time, indeed by no means all but some of the taxidermists catering to the outfitting market will take care of the CI. The guy I use is a one stop shop for my clients.
