A few questions for all of our Northern neighbors. How is the quality of this brand and how does Aquatex compare with goretex? It isn't exactly inexpensive and appears to be well made. I picked up a coat and some pants mostly because it said, "Made in Canada". I hope it was money well spent.

I have been trying to remember if I have ever even seen this stuff for sale, but it does not ring any bells. It does look like good stuff, but I don't think it is a big seller out west here. Maybe I just don't get out shopping as much anymore, but have never bought anything from them. Maybe it is big out east.
Most of the stuff I see in the sporting goods stores are either made in china or the states.
Sorry for not helping out more bshooter, let us know what you think of it.

Must be. ???

I have heard of it, and saw it somewhere at least once, but I am not familiar with it at all.

Sorry I am no help either.

Cheers,
Canuck

Popular in Eastern Canada. My son has a pair of aquatex lined boots that make his feet sweat so much he has to change sox even while stand hunting.

According to the label, Sportchief dates back to 1946 and the warranty card has a Quebec address on it. Like has been suggested, maybe "big out east". If it will warm up enough to rain, I'll wear it to work and report back. Thanks for the replies.

Finally wore the coat to work today. Wind about 15 to 20 mph, snowing off and on, temps in the high 20's. Coat works great. Kept the wind out and I was toasty all day. Stood around for half hour or so just bs'ing, letting the wind (both kinds) blow. I would buy another. No problem.

That brand is quite well-known here (Ontario), most shops carry it. I've got a few pieces and they have held up well over the years. I don't think that Aqua-tex allows perspiration to evaporate nearly as fast as Gore-tex, but I sure haven't performed any controlled tests or anything...just my seat-of-the-pants impression.
