I hope you guys don't get the impression I am AGAINST SCI- far from it..

I really appreciate the input that I am getting here. The time has come that we get the opinion of the guys we are and will be fighting for. No one has in the past heard the voice of the people, and like wise the people have not heard the voice of the organization in BC. A while back I was working in Chetwynd, and I was talking to some avid hunters about SCI and what the organization can do for them. I was alarmed by the response : SC WHO? And at least 50 % of the guys didnt know who we were and what we did, the other 50 % were not ever aware of that SCI had a Chapter in BC. That is why the voice is going out now to the outdoors men and women.

We are here and we will make a difference to support what we are and in support of conservation! < !--color-->

Gatehouse, I agree with you 100%, there will be duplication, and even repetitiveness between the SCI, BCWF, and also the wild sheep society. All three organisations are doing a good job, But I think it is time to do a great job! At the end of the day, these oragnisations support the same cause, and that being conservation in BC. If we are all on the same frequency, then the government will need to listen. But other than the fact that the government needs to listen. The most important point is, we all want to hunt and hopefully get all our siblings involved. Funds are being allocated to conservation, CWD, and the prevention of poaching, And can you really say there are to many people involved in conservation. My answer is no, there is never enough involvement to protect our future and our environment.

In the past SCI did not have a voice in BC, but now things will change. We are in the process to start funding projects and will be in contact with the Government officials in certain concerns. We have already this year set aside funding for projects that will support even you. We are setting aside funding as seed for project that will support us all in hunting. One we have all the details finalized, I will post again, and let you all know on the progress.

With all these projects that we are getting involved in, we will have a voice now! I can almost guarantee that SCI will be heard in the media when environment and hunting issues arise. A voice that will both influence the government and also the public.

My challenge is this, Get Invloved, try us for 1 year, < !--color--> If you find we are not doing what you want us to do, then we can discuss our down fall's and also our achievements.

Thats great Clarke,I wasn't aware of that!
Mickey 1,
Are those numbers correct?29,000 in a country of 250,000,000.It seems kind of weak to me.The BCWF has an annual membership averaging about 30,000 and that's only from the poulation of British Columbia.

And even that is a poor turnout when you consider that BC has about 150 000 hunters!

SCI has a worldwide membership. SCI is not the only Hunter's group in the US but it is the lagest and most influential Hunter's Advocacy Group on the Federal level. As in everything, it is quality that counts.

Three of the Chapters in Washington helped found an umbrella group that now has over 45,000 members in State. By funding it initially it was allowed to grow and now it is the most important voice for Hunters in the State.

Wordwide membership of SCI according to a recent response is 37,300. So 29,000 could be true. I admit that my initial reaction was "he, he missed a zero" but I checked the answer:

"In reply to your questions, we currently have 37,337 members and 194 chapters"

The 37,500 includes wives and children also. That number is down about 6,000 since Dart became the Exec. Dir.in Sept of 2001. Thank Goodness he is now the problem of the RMEF.
