My travel schedule prior to an upcoming trip to BC leaves me with the alternative of wasting a bunch of time flying or flying into Smithers a couple of days early. I am choosing the latter.

I will be in Smithers in mid-August with a couple of days to spare. What is there to do? Any fishing or black bear hunting?

Thanks!

I recall watching Monday night football in a local bar there.

Who are you hunting with in BC? What species?

North River Outfitters.

Stone Sheep. After the sheep, I have my choice of everything else.

I was guessing you were going after Stone Sheep. Good luck!

The weather in the mountains around Smithers can be very fickle. We have experienced delays of 2 and 3 days trying to take our bush flights into base camp due to the mountains being socked in. I would recommend you make arrangements with your outfitter and fly in to base camp early to eliminate the chance of losing valuable hunting days. Bring a good book and relax a few days in base camp.

That is excellent advice. The reason I watched Monday night football in Smithers was due to weather. Spent five days of a ten day hunt waiting to fly out. If your outfitter is using an Otter, big advantage; we finally used that.

4WD gives excellent advice. I did the same on a bear in AK in 2017 and will do so again in two months on an AK moose hunt.

Now there's a reason to go all by itself. But I'm a steelhead addict! Big Grin

Good fishing on the Bulkley. Tellys Grill is a good place to eat. Smiler

Black bear hunting won't open until September, IIRC.

Saw this and checked with some fish-a-holic friends.

Gil McKean in Terrace, BC 866-578-8552. He fishes the Skeena about 2 hours from Smithers. He may also fish the Bulkley.

Good luck, Larry.
