If you wish to hunt grizzly in BC, you will need to do so on the mainland. If you wish to hunt "brown" bear, coastal Alaska or Kodiak Island are your best options. Tony Mandile - Author "How To Hunt Coues Deer"

The previous 2 posts are correct. I know Jim Shockey is one outfitter that offers black bear hunts on Vancouver Island, they sure to grow big there, lots of food and very mild winters!

If you are looking for big black bears consider the Queen Charlotte Islands. Our son is a fishing guide up there and he sees very big bears. Though the north of Vancouver Island sure would be a good bet too. Here is the link to Profet Muskwa http://www.prophetmuskwa.com/h...o/olm-pbo-price.html Watson Lake.

Try a boat hunt with Peter at North Coast Adventures http://ncasafaris.com/ He may have some grizzly tags and he takes some nice black bears.

The prices for these coastal hunts are just brutal, there are other options. My approach to this would be to book a 2-3 species hunt in the AUTUMN with one of the top outfits in NE BC and take a bear plus probably a wolf as a part of your over-all hunt costs. I would seriously consider "Stone Mountain Safaris", "High and Wild Adventures" or "Tuchodi River Outfitters" as top notch outfits here in BC, where you could get an Elk, a Moose, a Blackie and a wolf,, plus other species, depending on your time and funds. Nothing against the coastal operations, I just think that, if you have to fly from "dear olde Blighty" to the bloody Colonies, old boy, you should do a hunt where you can get the biggest "bang for your buck", as it were. Plus, if I recall, you are a doctor? The BC government is crazy to get more docs for northern BC and, hey, they might offer you a hell of a position and then think of all the hunting you could do! (I am half serious here, we really NEED more medical pros). So, it might be worth checking with those outfitters, among the very best in BC and the game is there as I have seen on a number of trips. thank you for all your advice. I am referring to brown phase of black bear. Having shot black bears in ontario they are really babies compared to those on the west coast. Dewey read the long thread you started about hunting in BC - you have got a point to an extent ..

Actually, the "Ursus Americanus" bears of Ontario and Manitoba ARE the largest in Canada and our BC specimens do not seem to get quite as heavy. The largest VI Blackie I know of was some 600+ lbs. and there are 800+ specimens from Manitoba. You may well just want the coastal bear hunting experience from a boat and there are a couple of outfits doing that; as much as I detest the GOABC, for good reason, I would suggest contacting them and getting a list of outfitters in that region and researching from there. For "colour phase" bears, I would go to the Kootenays or the northeastern parts of BC and, if a bear alone is your desire, I would hunt in the spring rather than the fall, as it is a bit easier to find them then. A really fine hunt can be had in the Kootenays during May and the landscape is simply stunning then and the weather is usually gorgeous. As to my comments concerning BC hunting, this is a situation currently in serious conflict here and one that really requires a considerable amount of "hands-on" experience to understand. I would LIKE to see a LOT MORE hunting of Black Bears as we have too many of them and currently pay taxes to have approx. 1000 "problem" bears shot by our "game wardens" every year....just a waste and we should encourage hunters from other nations to come here and hunt these as this would be FAR better than the slaughter that is happening now. The rest of the situation is evolving, I am actually pretty happy to see how the BCWF is tackling this serious problem AND I am pretty hopeful that we may yet see the outcome I consider appropriate, where a Canadian like yourself, regardless of current place of residence, could come as a "guest" of a resident hunter here and hunt your bear. I would really recommend that you become a member of www.huntingbc.ca, which is free and a BC hunting site. There are some REALLY knowledgable people on it and you can obtain a LOT of valuable info. concerning BC hunting there and also make contacts for hunting, etc., here. There are conflicts there, as there are here, but, one can "work around" these and still get a lot of value from the site as well as offer a perspective from your international experience. Anyway, hope this helps, when are you planning on coming for that bear?

You might give Roy Pattison a shout at Sentinel Mountain Safaris . He's located about an hour north of Prince George. Although most of the bears are black -- usually with a white blaze under the chin -- there are also other color phases around. I've hunted with him twice. On the first one, I took two large black ones and on the 2nd, I took the life-size one. On both hunts, other guys killed bears from almost blond to chocolate. He charges $2,500 for a 2 on 1 and $4,000 for 1 on 1 for spring hunts, which is the best time to hunt bears there. These are strictly spot-&-stalk hunts; no baiting in BC. Wolves are included. This one is on the right above. It was BIG! Tony Mandile - Author "How To Hunt Coues Deer"

Try Brad Lister of Coastal Inlet Adventures. I hunted with him and saw over 40 bears in four days. Jim Kobe 10841 Oxborough Ave So Bloomington MN 55437 952.884.6031 Professional member American Custom Gunmakers Guild

You can find bears in the coastal areas that are genetically the same as the island bears and just as big. Also nice not to have to deal with the additional travel over to the island. Check out www.bigboaroutfitters.com They sure did me right. Send me a msg if you'd like me to email you the photos if the bears I got on my trip. Good luck... Hope you find an outfitter that suits you!

We have colour-phase bears here in the chilcotin which will go 6ft + but not with the mass of eastern bears. Doug aka Chilcotin Hillbilly would be a good guy to talk to.

Hi Jim Kobe Did Brad take you into Clowhom for bear. Just curious because I have a cabin up there. It's just up the river from the head of the lake. It sits just across from the big grass flat. Sometimes the grass flat is flooded over. I live in Sechelt. Take care Dave

There are more colour phase black bears as you go further inland in BC, is my experience. I also find that they start getting smaller as you go north and into good grizzly areas. 375 Ruger- The NEW KING of the .375's!!
