Mine is my colt 1991a1,As long as I feed it,it places the rounds right where I intend.I love stapling a 8" paper plate to a stand at the 25 yd.line, then opening up a 1 lb.coffee can of ammo, and then make a 8" hole through the back stop with it!!! And still not use the whole can of ammo to do so.It rides nice and flat in a shoulder holster.

For carry, a Wilson SDS (Commander-size) 1911 in .45 ACP, followed by a Colt 1911-A1 (WWII reproduction) in .45 ACP. These are the best semi-autos I've ever owned, but I've also enjoyed an HK P7-M8 9mm very much as well.
Tanfoglio Force 99, imported to the US as EAA Witness P. Polymer frame, ported barrel, 16+1 capacity, 9 mm, can carry it coked and locked, sloppy finish on the slide but the most accurate pistol I've owned out of the box. I used to be a 1911 only kind of guy, they shoot well after you work them over but I've had to do nothing at all to this one, all for $329.

I was on a temporary assignment here in Houston for a couple of years in the early '90's. My family was still living in California. I had time to kill in the evenings and on weekends so I bought a Colt 1911 frame at a gunshow, a Commander slide from Caspian, a 45 ACP barrel and bushing from Briley and the rest from Wilson. Bought Kuhnhousons (sp?) book and went to Sears and bought a "Dremel", files, stones, etc., and went to work in the evenings and on weekends. Many months (and a few over ground or filed redundant parts) later emerged my favorite auto. To this day it punches 1 1/4" groups at 25 yards and has yet to malfunction. Also, I now fully understand exactly how the 1911 design works. As a footnote, I had to buy my rental couch for the apartment as the right arm of it became my workbench for the project, they did not want it back...

I really like my Springfield UltraCompact. All the standard 1911 bells/whistles. Novacs tritium sights, extended release, Vidicki trigger, commander hammer, yadayadayada . . . Match bbl. I also have a MilSpec with Pachmayr walnut grips, Wilson one-piece stainless recoil rod. Wilson and Chip McCormick "Shooting Star" mags . . . leather all over the place for both guns.
But I like my polished up, double stack Russian Bakail Makarov too, Pearce grips.
NAA Guardian goes everywhere, nicely made, feels good. Had a Kel-Tec P-32 and didn't like the "squirt gun" feel of it.
My favorite is a 1983 Combat-Goverment. For hunting a carry a Sig 226 before,than a learn that a 9mm makes a wounded(?) boar laugh!Now turn back to my good old 45. Today I think I will get a Sig 220 in 45! Hauke

Pre WWll 1911 plus I have all the parts to make it an Al...I am looking for a frame and plan to build another Al. I have a 1940's HD Military that my Dad gave me for Christmas in 77.
My favorite without a doubt would be my Beretta 92FS. Bought it new 12 years ago and never once has it failed to go bang when I squeeze the trigger regardless of ammo type or brand.
Since that time have purchased everything from a .22 rimfire to .454 Casull and still my 92FS is my favorite.
Safe shooting.

1) For deer hunting: 6" bbl 41 Mag S&W M57 w a 2x Leupold M8 on Beuhler mounts.
2) For IPSC Open: STI wide frame 1911 with Baer slide, Nowlin ramped bbl, Krebbs 6 port comp, and loads of trick parts ... in 38 Super. Fitted with a Serendipity heads up on a WCPI aluminum/carbon fiber mount. Shoots 2 " groups at 50 yards from a Randsom rest.
3) IPSC Limited: Para wide frame 1911 w Baer slide, Nowlin ramped bbl, spherical bushing and lots of trick parts in 40 S&W. Again shoots 2" groups at 50 yards from Ransom rest.
4) Carry: Depends on the weather
Winter: Stock P229 in 40 S&W or Stock Para P12 in 45 ACP.
Summer: Stock H&K P7M8 in 9mm with Federal 115 gr HPs
A SIG P228 that I bought in the early 90's. It has Hogue grips, K-Kote and SIGLITE sights. If you think that the 9mm is a bit anemic you could try some of the +P and hotter rounds such as Corbon,Magsafe and Glaser. Great performance, super ergonomics, and all in a compact package with higher mag capacity than most 45's (lets not worry about legality at the moment). If it has to a 45 then I'd go SIG220 because of their reputation for "out of the box"reliability and accuracy, with no "cocked and locked" concerns like the 1911. For absolute stopping power I'd use my stainless (they don't offer this finish anymore) Desert Eagle 50 A.E. The only problem this gun ever gave me was occassional failure of the slide to stay open after the last round was ejected and this seems to have been cured by using a new magazine. It always makes a big impression at the range, but hearing protection is A MUST!! even when shooting just a round or two outdoors.
THE NEATEST AUTOLOADING PISTOL I EVER SAW WAS A .44 MAGNUM AUTOMAG. IT WAS A STAINLESS STEEL MARVEL OF GUN MAKING. I'D HAVE ONE OF THOSE IF I COULD. THE 2ND AMENDMENT PROTECTS US ALL.........
1911 in 38 super,no 1911 in 45,nope Hi-Power,well maybe P-9 in 9x21,no no its definetely Para/Caspian in 38 super,maybe P-14-45,well heck I guess as long as its S/A and has a decent trigger.......
