Any of you familiar with these pistols? Mainly looking at the dependability factor as the use of this gun would be for self-defense...
I am down to either this or a Springfield compact .45 (1911 design).

i'm not familiar with the FN but my usual carry piece is the springfield microcompact. The one thing to watch out for with the compact 45's is that they are hard on recoil springs. Without the slide weight the springs take a heck of a beating. The springfield is a single action piece. If double action is your preference take a close look at the para LDA. The one LDA i tried had about the best features of a double action put into the 1911 format i have tried Enough so that i ordered their new PDA 9mm 3 months ago - still waiting for it to get here
