been looking for a 22 mag pistol. The Smith model 48 keeps surfacing. Opinions appreciated. should the barrel be at least 6" to get the benefit of the mag velocity?

mine is the 8" and its really kinda like a pocket rifle. Yes I think at least 6", otherwise i think you mostly just make a bunch more noise.

I have one in a 4inch barrel and have made some great shots with it on rock chucks and gophers.Mine is really finicky about ammo and I find more duds than I like and its not the gun.I have a 647 I like better in 17HMR,that thing will shoot and kill,like you wouldnt believe.w/regards
