I have a AWA (American Western Arms) 1873 45 colt. Ive only shot lead cast ammo with 250 gr bullets out of it and loaded up some snake shot too

Any recommendations for jacketed bullets? Maybe lighter wieght than 250gr? What about the speer 200,225s or Hornadays offerings

Also I read that I should use .451 dia bullets, what are the hornaday .452bullets for.

Is it best to use a cannelure bullet rather than one with out the cannelure for crimping or does it matter

Thanks

i really can't answer your questions other than
45LC generally uses .452 bullets, while ACP uses .451 ..

i load 250gr hornady XRP MAGs, at crimp line, and XX GR of 2400 .. its about 1000fps in my SW 625-9 4" .. quickload predicts about 18K psi .. or 2.5K over SAA loads

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

Called Hornaday and thats what they said, their 250 gr at .452 is for saa colt.
Looking at my speer and nosler manuals theirs show .451 bullets

I need to order some bullets so trying to figure out what to get. Maybe the hornadays 250s or nosler 250s. Thought a lighter bullet might work in a saa for more velocity with its light powder load?????

best to use a bullet w/ a cannelure for crimping but its not totally necessary if you are going to shoot light loads. Do not shoot heavy loads in this revolver! .451 or .452 jacketed bullets will work fine. I shoot both Hornady XTP 250gr and Nosler hp 250gr bullets and had no issues. You can use a Lee factory crimp die if your bullet of choice does not have a cannelure and you want to use a crimp.

If you find Hornady 250g XTP's for the 45 Colt somewhere please post the source. I have been trying to buy some for quite a while and everyone (Midway, Cabellas, Graf) all say..."out of stock".
