I have just inherited a S&W model 639 9MM and I was looking for some information on how to break it down to clean it. Being a benchrest guy, I don't have much experience with pistols.

the 39 will fieldstrip much like a 1911 with a full length guide rod. Pull the slide back to the little notch and push the slide release pin out. then pull the spring and operating rod out. the barrel will back up and drop out just like a 1911
