So definitely have the itch for a double rifle someday. I'm in no particular hurry and have been reading about them on forums like AR as well as visiting the booths at the conventions. What I've figured out I know best about doubles is that I still don't really know squat about them. Any recommendations for a good book to read to take my knowledge from absolute beginner to a reasonable working knowledge?

You may wish to contact Cal Pappas. He published a book "The Double Rifle Primer".

He may still Have copies available. If you do a search you may be able to find feedback on the Primer and his two other double rifle books

Cal is a good guy to converse with as well and is quite helpful. Give him a shout.

+1 on Pappas book "The Double Rifle Primer".
Santa gave me that for Christmas and it is full of good information and great pix - also current with the major double rifle makers of today.

Two books will give you a good start:

1. The Double Rifle Primer by Cal Pappas
2 Shooting the British Double Rifle by Graeme Wright

If you wanted a third, you might try:

3. The Express Rifle by Saul Braceras

All the suggestions are good, but I think what you need first is Cal's DOUBLE RIFLE PRIMER, and Graemes Wright's SHOOTING THE BRIIISH DOUBLE RIFLE. I think with those two books you will learn the most basic information about the double rifle to make an informed decision as to what rifle will best suit your needs.

I might add the website you are on right now will get you more good information than just about any other place on the web for double rifle info!

George, no, please don't write such things about my book. You see, you are held in such high esteem here on AR that my sales will cease if potential buyers see the book is not for you. In fact, many who have bought my book(s) may ask to return them should they see your writings.

That, coupled with the fact you own the finest double in the world, and I own such garbage (remember I am the garbage collector), many if not most will stop looking at my website or reading my magazine articles.

Cheers, my friend,
Cal

PS. I never did receive your hunt video. I sure it is lost in the mail (US side, of course). Can I trouble you to post another one? And, remember our double rifle shoot is May 7 and you are invited. Having you there would be like, well, having the Beatles show up at a high school battle of the bands.

Everyone here on AR feels the same but I will print it anyway: George, you're the best!

I had converted the file to 1080.I then edited the video myself.I don't like music playing throughout my video.I only like it at certain spots. It was good to have someone energetic as Ray film it.He is filming all the time at every moment of the hunt and not only when there is action. That way there is a lot of footage to choose from while editing.I only instructed him when it comes to the shooting scene.I said that I want him to shoot from behind as if the lens were the hunters eyes.I told him to put the hunter and whole ele in the frame if the ele is close enough and if not to keep the rifle barrel and sights along with the ele in the frame during the kill shot.I told him about the movie "Halloween" and how the camera technology was used to become the eyes of the killer.

Thank you, George.
Your hunts have come a long way during your tenure at AR. I look forward to seeing the entire hunt as the warthog was very well done.
Even though you and I have butted heads in the past, you are welcome to our double shoot on may 7. We have folks coming from the Lower US and Fort Nelson in BC.
