BiebsI wonder why someone would need a matched pair of DRs? I can see it with shotguns on a driven hunt with a loader, but rifles?
23 January 2014, 03:09
dpcdThe well heeled sporting Gentleman does not concern himself with such gauche talk of affordability. He simply uses them as tools and returns them to the factory, yearly, for cleaning and inspection. If, and when, they wear enough to warrant re-build, that is done as well and is expected.
Enough talk from the peasants. That is why they invented bolt actions.

BaxterBIs it me, or did they lay half a million dollar's worth of Holland and Holland on asphalt?
By the way, nice to see animal engraving that actually looks like animals.

BTW Baxter Holmes, I think you nailed it. Look at the LOP difference.

PSmithI reckon if those rifles were mine I'd have taken the photos on the 18th green of the golf club instead of the driveway.
JB takes his photos over a nice soft patch of clover.

Bill CooleyThose rifles are as nice as the three on display at the Rock Island Auction Co. display at DSC. Does any one remember the calibers? 3 consecutively serial numbered H&H rifles cased with everything you could possibly think of including 5 oil/solvent bottles. I have never seen that many bottles in a cased gun before. The auction estimates were well below replacement.

Canuck32The description has two different LOP's and says guns were made for 2 brothers who never got a chance to use them and are in pristine, unfired condition.
Wish I could have enough disposable income to buy those and then use them.
If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

I recall the three at RIA in Dallas were in .375 flanged, .300 flanged, and .275 flanged. But I could be in error on the smallest.

I just love the superb finish on your double spoogeaway. Did you have to pay extra to make it look like it came from some cave in Afghanistan?

Explain the discrepancy in the wood to metal fit on the left side of the receiver of your rifle, please. The lower fitting seems fair but how about the gap at the top?
Also, what did you pay for your rifle? Just curious. I'd like to compare the price with some of the trashy English doubles I, and many friends, have.

No worries Cal. A master at fixing sights will have no problem with the stock fit. Shootshiswad will use Plastic Wood.

Shoot away may wish to have this Fine example of modern craftsmanship Hydro-dipped to hide some of the more obvious flaws. Perhaps a nice Flectarn Camo pattern would look proper.

Shit> is that what you used to dip the barrels in to get this lovely "weathered" look? Or perhaps you can repost a photo of the underside showing those lovely timed screws?

shootawayI just checked my rifle and those spots on the action are nothing but oil.The barrel is perfect. That grey spot must be the light reflection.Screws on the bottom look good to me.The only blueing that is weathered is the one under the left chamber and that is my fault.I was a little too rough with it during the first cleaning where I had alot of JB and grit on my left hand that held the barrel as I scrubbed the bores.I am not used to cleaning a double-I usually hold the stock grip when I clean by bolt rifle.
