Gents:
Just arrived home from the finest double rifle shoot on the planet. 20+ guys, 40+ doubles (plus a couple of single barreled vintage arms and machine guns), good food, and a cloudless sky and 65 degrees. Two gents came up from the lower 48 to visit. Let the pics speak for themselves:

Mike Brooks brought up some of his collection.

Brett brought his .500 nitro Watson Brothers.

Dave P. brought some of his fine doubles, including a .577 bpe and also a 10 bore flintlock.

Todd K's. three included a H&H paradox, a .450 no2 and a .360.

Rob's several vintage guns and some machine guns added to the fun. Oh, and the .577 Howdah.

Chuck M and four treasures to share.

Targets and lunch.

Last of all, Cal brought several doubles and a single. Left to right: .600 Wilkes, 4-bore Hughes, .500 Watson Brothers, .375 bolt rifle by Cogswell and Harrison, .450 no2 Lang, 12-bore Whistler, 8-bore Locke, 8-bore Jeffery.

A couple of for sale items from Cal: ammo, books, .500 and .577 bpe.

And, a fine target from the 12-bore Whistler. Six shots at 30 yards.

That's all folks.
Thanks for looking.
Cal

Question for AkMike.

That double that laying furthest away on the table which is a hammerless with Jones underlever. Is that your Alex Henry in .577 or .577/500magnum?.

Like you 450 I too was intending to make this one but a second trip to the hospital for another carotid surgery negated the trip.

Looking at the pictures it looks like it was a real success.

450 maybe, if I can stay out of the hospital long enough, we can make the next one in the spring and do a little black bear hunting with our doubles and fishing for a few days as well.

Congratulations guys on a real fun get together!

Jens, I'm sorry but I just noticed your question. That Hammerless is a 577/500 3 1/8" magnum. There is also a hammer 577/500 Magnum shown in the 3rd picture, 4th from the right. As well as a Thomas Turner but in a 577/500 #2.

Who knows maybe in the future.I will have to bring that up one day at the range.I would want it to be an AR get together but I am not sure it would work because of the firearm import hassles. There are some other issues too regarding the range...The weather is not the best too.

George:
How many double rifle men are at your range?
In eastern Canada?
Do you know any AR members in your area who like doubles?
This is the 4th or 5th year of doing this here in AK. The first two years were at my home and only a couple of men could shoot at one time and it was a 160 km drive from the city. The past three years have been at a big range about 1/2 hour east of Anchorage so it is easier on everyone for the drive and 10-15 of us have our own station to shoot.
I know you don't like both Alaska and our rifles, but you are welcome anytime.
Cal

Good to hear you are recovering well. My surgery went well, and this is my second surgery on my carotid arteries with 98% blockage on the right a year ago, and the left now with a 95% blockage on the left. However at age 78 I guess some damage is to be expected.

Get well and go hunting!............. tu2
