I need to recover from buying the .450 Bradshaw first. Is it antique? Produced before 1885 or around there. That is the only way for legal possession here now. Also wife needs to accept my need Wink

Best all rounder 500NE manageability, weight and "stopping power" but I won't change my 577 for anything. I don't know about those of you who hunt with a 577/600 but nowadays I feel under gunned with anything less!Used to use a 416 with no qualms.... LOL

I'm in the middle of Ian Nyschens' book, "Months Of The Sun". This is a man who killed over 1000 elephant. He says, quite emphatically, that of all the rifles that he owned and used, including .375, 404, .470, and .600, his favourite was the .450 #2 Nitro Express. Did my head swell when I read that? Well, just a tad, LOL!

What is the best all around rifle cartridge for a large bore rifle? Also, what is the best test to determine that top candidate? I would like to expand on a statement by Finn Aagaard (Safari Rifles, Craig Boddington – Pg 378), where he says, "I have never been able to detect any difference in the field on game, between the .458 and .500/.450, .465, .470, or even the .500 Nitro Express."

So I guess experiences also differ...?

Not sure exactly what Finn's dangerous game (specifically buffalo and elephant) hunting experience was but, yes, apparently experiences do vary. Personally I choose to put more stock in the opinions and experiences of those that chase dangerous game for a living.

I understand that. Lots of professional hunters though have limited or no dangerous game hunting experience. I am not saying he did or he did not, I am just saying I am not aware of what his dangerous game hunting experience was. Perhaps someone knows.

Ganyana (and Saeed) on these forums also seem to find the .375 to .416 optimal for DG...

Ask Buzz Charlton, who happens to be one of the most prolific elephant specialist PHs around today, why he moved up from the 416 Rigby to a 500NE!!

My only double, a 500 NE. Shoots where I am looking, and I have complete confidence in the rifle. Never notice the recoil while hunting.

It would depend on what DG game we were after too.I would prefer something more accurate for a leopard than an ele.
