Hey everyone! I'm thinking about making .500 NE double rifle (or .470, .476, maybe .500/450) I can't find plan with (or without) measures anywhere... I'm beginner (as for double rifles) and this would be my first double so I would like to have a schema to made double following the measures. Thank you for your help. (Sorry if my grammar isn't correct, english isn't my first language.)

Bonngo Trying to find a plan to build a double is like trying to find a plan to build a Rolls Royce. Have fun. Larry

You could likely pull the anson dealy patents and drawings. The book making double rifles from shotgun actions is also a good reference for how to opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Bonngo the building of double rifles is a very complex operation, and require some real skill. That being said, I would suggest that you buy both of W. Ellis Brown’s books ]B] Building Double Rifles On Shotgun Actions [/B] http://www.bundukipublishing.com/doublerifle.htm These two books will give you some insight into the complexities of double rifles and building a double rifle on a donor shotgun action would teach you a lot that is almost impossible to learn on your own. Once you get a shotgun action that is appropriate for use as a rifle you can measure the action for yourself and make copies of that action in future. Nobody offers the plans for the actions as much of that is trade secret. As you say you are new to double rifle so it would be less stress to start off with these two books, before going into deep water with building from scratch! Good luck, and welcome to Accurate Reloading, you will learn a lot from this website! ................................................................... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Where are you located? There is no substitute for examining as many double rifles as you can to see how they are made. There are many designs for side by sides and you aren't going to find a set of drawings for any of them. WW Greener's book from the late 1800s lists many of them and they have basically not been (and cannot be) improved upon (much). Get Ellis's book and at least a double shotgun with double bites and copy that; I assume you can get modern alloy steels and barrels where you are. Do not make any modern gun from plain carbon steel; no reason to; there are good chrome moly (sometimes nickel) alloys available now that will protect you.

MacD37, thanks for the endorsement! Always appreciated. Even though there is a 1st & 2nd edition, there is only one book on building double rifles by Ellis Brown. No need to try and hunt up a "1st Edition", all of the information from the first edition is in the second and there is more information in the second edition. Second edition is readily available at the Bunduki Publishing web site provided above. Ellis450

One other thing, there is forum dedicated to those who want to build, or are building, their own double rifles on the Nitro Express forums. A lot of good information there. Ellis450

For donor actions look at www.757arms.com----they have used Merkel 12ga shotguns with the Greener crossbolt lockup, some very reasonable because of cosmetic blemishes. Hippie redneck geezer

Bonngo, I would also suggest that for your first gun you need to find a good strong donor shotgun and convert that rather than to try and build an action for your first one. There are just too many things to consider and too much tooling needed in order to build an action from scratch. Good Luck with your project gun. Bob

Any one have any insight as to wether or a not a Stoeger Coach Gun in 12 gauge or 20 would be a viable donor?
