Is ther such a thing -- I think it'd be a nice, low recoiling gun -- should be good for deer, pigs, etc.

There is an "in-between" rifle made by S.A.I.C.E. in Italy for around $5000 new, the Kodiak which I think is around $2500 these days (couldn't get your link to open, Rusty) and maybe the Remington for $900 one day.

Don't have a clue if this is the market price. But they are showing $5175 for the Kodiak.

i have a 45-70 built on a ruger red label by dietrich apel ( former owner of new england custom gun ) when he worked for his uncle paul jaeger in jenkintown, pa.

it is a super shooter and light recoiling. the bbls and action are heavy enough to rebore to a larger cal if desired ( say 45-120 which lets you shoot the entire family of 45-70 cartridges)
or take it out a full nitro if wanted.

it also has a set of 20 ga bbls condition is about new - price was $7,500 i will take $6,500
if interested i can send pics. tom

One thing about Kodiaks, they go up in price as regular as clock work. I hadn't priced one in about 3-4 years. $3500 is too high, much less $5000 for me to be interested. I'd rather save another year and get an old original hammer gun.

Chapuis used to make one. A few were imported by a fellow named Painter in Texas.
