I just finished a bear hunt in Alaska with my 45/70 double rifle. Took a decent bear. She was a very old sow! Only had three teeth besides the canines! I would guess around 180lbs. Shot her at about 15ft. The boat went four for four in two days of hunting. saw over 60 bears. I was shooting home loads barnes 405gr softs at 1800fps. She was quartering towards me up above me. I took her just in the base of the neck. The first shot rolled her over the second shot (not needed but if you got two barrels use them)just clipped her neck.

Nice job, Tonto! Do you have any closeups of the rifle? Would love to see them. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." JWP If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming. Semper Fidelis "Building Carpal Tunnel one round at a time"

The picture was not available! The 45-70 is a fine cartridge for Black bear, and in a double, with good handloads, and good bullets, is even better. My rifle is just a plain kodiak double rifle. I could take pictures but she isnt anything special.

Those Kodiak doubles are very pretty guns with some detail you wouldn't expect on a rifle in that price range. I have yet to see one or shoot one that wasn't accurate. Good job on the bear and very cool idea to hunt one with your double. Perry

I have shot a couple of the Kodiak 45/70's. My brother had one for a while. It shot everything we tried very good. It was not finiky at all. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

The Kodiak/Trail Guns Armory is a nifty DR from Pedersoli. The only issue is that most early rifles have two rear sights, one for each barrel. The newer ones are supposed to be regulated at 100yds IIRC. I had one of the early ones, great rifle. Rich

Tonto, I have one of these that was rechambered for 458 RCBS, and I'm thinking of haveing a guy down in Conroe, Texas rechamber it again to 450NE 3 1/4". If you are not going to re-chamber your rifle I might be interested in buying your dies, and componants for the 450NE! If you'd like to sell them, you can PM me here, or E-mail me @ DUGABOY1@aol.com ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Tonto, I missread your post and what I need is 450NE 3 1/4" not the 450#2, though the 450#2 barass is what I make cases for al old Westley Richards 500/450#1 Express double, so if you decide to sell the brass let me know! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith
