Best Red Dot Sight for a Double?

Okay, another question.

I am just opposed to a scope on a double. I think they ruin the lines of the gun and, in many cases, they can affect the regulation. That being said, as I get older, I am having some difficulty with iron sights much beyond 50 yards. What would you suggest as the best red dot sight for a little Chapuis 9.3X74R double? Doctor Optic? Nikon? What kind of mounts do you use? Is the sight mounted on the front or back mount? Any help would be appreciated.

All I can do is tell you what JJ told me, he recommends the Docter Optic. He says that they have held up well and work well on doubles. That is what I ended up putting on my Heym. The difference in consistency in accuracy is amazing over regular iron sights.

I also have the aging eye limitation and have tried the following: Burris unit on a 500 NE Heym; Leupold on 470 NE Chapuis; and a Trijicon on a 470 NE Heym. They each have held up and provide a much better alternative to open leaf sights.

The edge goes to Trijicon as you can adjust the dot brightness manually, overcoming the dot blooming effect that all of them have. But getting delivery from Trijicon is a test of patience.
The Leupold unit is a close second, and the Burris a distant third.

My last Heym came from the factory with a proper fly cut on the rib for the mounting plate purchased from Trijicon....a trivial installation.
The other DRs required a trip to JJ for the correct machining.

It's really a great sighting device...you're on target instantly and with the 3.5 minute dot you have good shot precision at 50 yds.

I have a relatively inexpensive Millett on my .458 WinMag and it has held up just fine, works well out to 50 yds which is a far as I've ever needed.

I used a Trijicon RMR on my Krieghoff 450/400 NE 3 in.
Only weighs 2 oz. no batteries. Selected the orange dot but
it is large 7 MOA. (smallest orange they make ) Works fine on buffalo out to about 120 yds.
Red Dot is smaller size (down to 3.5 MOA) and may be a better choice. No question
about "fast acquisition" and no paralax problems. Easily
removable and returns to POI. Second choice would be the
Doctor Optik or the Zeiss but they are bigger.

Good Shooting

Dave,
I prefer the Doctor Optic, by a wide margin.

I have used them on several rifles.

Which ever Red Dot you get you want one with a 3.5 to 4 minute dot.

This is what I ended up with.
I guess I am "gay".
