The 89 is certainly better looking than the 88b. However, the old model has bolsters and the new one doesn't but I'm told they have the same bar widths. Though the bolsters may not be not the best-looking ones, they should add some strength.

I do like the Trijicon RMR sight. With the one MOA red dot, it's very fast and precise. ![]() I'm getting an average of 2,150 fps muzzle velocity with Hornady factory loads, both softs and solids. Plus, they're shooting very close together and in the black. ![]() Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

So far, the only problems I’ve had with this superb double rifle have been relatively minor. Every time I have pulled the trigger, I’ve seen Alexander Hamilton winking at me and kissing me good-bye all the way down range to the target. But that has only involved financial pain. The other pain has been to my shoulder, which must be the result of Hornady using a bulky powder in these loads. Perhaps it’s IMR 4831. I may have to disassemble a load to find out. The final pain has been to my right middle finger, which occasionally gets bitten by the trigger guard when my pistol grip is not as tight as it should be. We shall see soon enough if the buffalo feel more pain than I do from this wonderful rifle. I expect they will. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

We widened each respective frame size for the new 89B - effectively absorbing the 88's bolster. So the new 89B frames have more steel than the blostered 88B, and - in theory - are even stronger.

Thanks Chris, so, it would seem the member who told me the frame widths had remained the same was looking at one for a smaller calibre.

On our trip to the Selous, I managed to drop a hippo bull who was standing in shallow water and looking straight at us from somewhere around 40-50 yards. ![]() A 500 grain DGX bonded bullet fired from my right barrel hit him in his left eye, penetrated his brain and killed him instantly. No luck on buff, but still very satisfying to take this gnarly old bull hippo with my Heym 89B. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
