Thought it was another Sabbatti thread... Roll Eyes

Been looking at this Jewel for the past few days, and wonder what I could sell, beg or steal for it. This might be my fav. double gun action--based on looks!

Gotta laugh but I think that is my old gun.

I'll have to check the serial number.

I like the way he calls it a "SPRING COCKED ACTION" instead of a "Wrist breaker".

It was a great gun and in some ways I wished I had never sold it - which I only did
because a mate in the US wanted a gun like this that shot well.

Edit
It is mt old gun.

Hello Nigel,
You're correct, that is the beautiful Lancaster you sold me. I purchased an
equally nice Holland & Holland 500/465 NE Royal from Champlin's last year
so haven't been using the Lancaster & thought maybe it was time that someone
else could treasure it for awhile. As you remember it is a very accurate rifle & I've taken elephant, lion & buff
with it. JJ @ Champlin's told me he could fabricate some scope
mounts for those bases, if someone wants to use a scope with it.

It's really hard to part with this beauty, who knows maybe I'll keep it, get scope
mounts made & it can be the light rifle paired with the 500/465?

Hard to beat a nice handling, accurate double rifle!

God that is a beautiful elephant. The tusks look to be perfectly symmetrical . The rifle is a beauty too.

oh to have a unlimited gun budget.

If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem.

Useful info on these "Wiener Schnaeppermontage" over at NE: http://forums.nitroexpress.com...?Cat=0&Number=168129

Pre-WWII, and long obsolete, sadly.

Its cool to see the path that some guns take when sold to another. If these vintage guns could talk, oh the stories they would tell..

I agree. We have actually kept in touch so when he shot those animals
I knew about it and his trip to NZ. I did know he was going to put it
on the market at some point so it wasn't a surprise to me.

I never took it hunting but the gun shot well for me on targets
and J obviously shot well with it in the bush.

It always was a good shooter. The internal's are all good as well
as I had it checked by one of our DR gunsmiths over here.

I'm surprised they didn't put a photo up of the gun case. I thought
I did a pretty good job of finding a decent period case which it nearly
fitted and having it professionally relined.

Its a really neat looking gun, I am sure it will find a nice home. Do you have any pictures of the case?

Nigel, You did a beautiful job with the period case, I even got a trade label for
it , but haven't put it in yet. Hopefully, I can post this photo of the case/rifle.

Concerning the scope mounts, JJ @ Champlin's said that he could fabricate
a set to match those mounts. I never had a need for a scope, but at least
there is an option for one.

I'm heading to Argentina for a dove hunting vacation (escaping the cold), so
will be away for 2 weeks. Nigel knows more about this rifle than
anyone, so he can certainly answer questions.

Cheers, Jim

Thanks Jim for posting the photo, my internet has been down.

Generalwar - Thanks for the compliment - if you are going to do something, you might as well try to do it well. We have an excellent guy here who relines cases using the correct glue (ie non corrosive) and makes the partitions to fit exactly.

All but one of the accessories is original,
I think it was the round container.
