Nganga, If I'm the Jack you're referring to, thanks for the laugh! If I'm NOT the Jack you're referring to, thanks for the laugh! If you're actually seriouly insulting me... nah, that can't be. This place has only classy people as members. The rifle is a real looker, and at 10 pounds for 500 NE it's a "Joy" I'll bet to lug through Africa's heat in exchange for the energy that it will deliver to the beast you hunt/shoot. But we must know more: all dimensions, do you like it's balance, do you really prefer the beaver tail forend, did you choose NOT to have "hand detach- able" side locks or were they not offered, how long from when you ordered it till it was in hand, is there an English version of the company's web site, and of course pricing parameters for the rifle with various options. Let's go, get to it, we're all wait- ing to soak it all up! Jack OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}

I'm quite pleased with my two "Entry Level" doubles; Chapuis 9,3x74R and Searcy .470 NE. They have been to Africa since I acquired them, and work well for anything but long shots. 200 yards is plenty to shoot for me. The Searcy weighs 10lbs 10oz, and the Chapuis, including factory mounts, rings, and Leupold is a trim 8lbs 4oz. I'll get some pics in. Beautiful DRs, by the way; all of them. Rich DRSS

Cane Rat: I really, really like that VC! I wanted to look them over and handle a few but when I was back in PA this spring, Ken was in France at the factory. Can you tell me a little about the gun? Is that the standard wood or did you do a wood upgrade? What does it weigh? Hi Dave, Thanks! It weighs 9 lbs 14 oz which is about perfect for me but some may like it a little heavier, it fits me so well recoil isn't a problem. It has ejectors and 24" bbls (actually a shade less but close to 24", they denote them in metric). Yes, the wood is upgraded, it is what they call 4 Stars, it has some other upgrades as well; full length tangs top and bottom, steel grip cap with compartment, gold inlay and teardrops on the buttstock, and moustache reinforcements on the receiver. I really like these guns, I think they are a lot of gun for the money and Ken will treat you right.

Very, very nice and you are right, I think the VC is the best buy on the market right now. It's the closest thing we regular guys can come to a "bespoke" rifle. I don't have any experience with a Holland & Holland but I think VC has fashioned the looks of their gun after the H&H Royal. You know you really have to wonder if you will be able to buy these rifles for the kind of prices they are selling for now a few years down the road. I just think that as they become more well known prices will escalate. Here's a neat video if you are interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...Fb_Q&feature=related

Jack, By the address on the rib, mine was built between 1892 and 1908. Without going and looking at it, I think it's 2 Great Scotland Yard. They moved to 10 York Building in 1909. Again this is all from memory so I may be off a year or two and a digit or so on the address. I'll take a photo of it and post it up when I get a chance. Nganga Formerly "Nganga"

Cane Rat: I think you mentioned that your VC regulated with about 106 grains of IMR 4831. I am guessing that would give you about 2150 fps out of the 24 inch barrel. If you order a VC, can you ask that it be regulated to the old standard with Kynoch ammo instead which would regulate around 2000 fps from the same barrel length? Also, can you ask that the rifle be built to a certain weight? VC makes a 9.3X74 double with a Holland & Holland "filet". Can anyone tell me what that is?
