Hmmm ... Which of these is worth the most right now? The Ivory, the VC 500NE double gun, or 5 brand spanking new canisters of RL-15!!

Santa just left the Williams residence. He was driving a brown panel truck!!

Hey Todd, I guess I've been out of the loop. I always bought the 5# jugs. Only have 3 full ones left in inventory. Honestly, is there a shortage?

And if you don't mind, how much? Powder was going for about $30-$35/lb in general at the F-burg gun show.

The value of each is incumbent upon an individuals perspective, need and how much he is willing to pay! Glad you found some RL-15 for your 500NE (and someone who would ship/deliver it)!

It could be argued that you couldn't get the ivory without the VC 500NE and you couldn't use the DR with out ammo properly loaded with the RL-15 powder! Cool Therefore, based upon the theory of first event, the most valuable is the RL-15 powder.

Christmas!!

A good fellow who posts here on AR put me on to the powder. He has probably already seen the post so I'll let him make the offer if there is more. But suffice it to say, it was not easy to find. I've had feelers out for about 3 months now. Several of the other places are supposed to notify me if they get any in and I'll gladly pass along that info for anyone still needing any once I hear from them.

I had found 2 5lb kegs on GunBroker about a month ago but they were already over $300 each with 4 days remaining on the auction. These canisters were well priced at $28.99 each, plus the $39.99 Hazmat fee.

I'll let you guys know if I find some more.

I was in a small shop in Kernersville, NC today and they had a pound or two of RL15 along with RL17 & 22. They also had a number of cans of Varget which I have not seen in several months. I also bought several pounds of CFE powder while I was there.

Yeah Don, it's quite the commodity right now and has been for 6 months or so. Maybe longer but like you, I wasn't looking for it prior to that. Hell, I wasn't tuned into the severity of ammo and component shortages until trying to purchase a box of 22LR about 3 months ago. That was a HUGE wake up call. Why the hell is 22LR ammo impossible to find?

If they can't take our guns, they'll settle for taking the ammo as the next best thing.

If you read the factory description on RL-15, it is one of the "official" powders selected for military loadings in the 5.56. Therefore, it's just damn near impossible to find it. Anyone who comes across it, I'd suggest making the purchase, assuming you load the NE rounds with it.

Hey Todd; funny you should post, while I was driving today I thought wondering if you have received the powder by now. Good for you, I thought Santa only visited around Christmas, did he drop it through the chimney? Wink

By the way do you use that elephant drawing in the back ground to practice your front brain shots? Big Grin

Really the only thing keeping me around these days.

Since he posted about it, I'll name him. Malek is the fine fellow who helped me out with finding the powder. Malek and I have gone at each other pretty hard with some debates, but we always kept it civil and respectful. As a result, I really respect and like the fellow. I wish the forum at large was like that. It could be with proper moderation, but that's someone else's call.

So how about 3 cheers for Malek and Jorge for helping out their buds!

Mike,

Are you asking who did the elephant?

If so, I don't remember his name. Our house has a travel theme throughout as I was a pilot and my wife a flight attendent. No, we met in college, not on a plane. Anyway, the first floor has all stained concrete floors, a copy of the lodge we stayed in on my first safari to RSA. We had this ele sculpted into the floor of the trophy room. Have a compass row sculpted into the floor in the main living room, and a wooden compass row on the landings of both wooden stair cases.

Anyway, he did a pretty good job with the ele. If I remember correctly, he took the ele picture on the cover of Boddington's "The Africa Experience", sketched it out, put in on an overhead projector like back in school, projected it onto the floor and went after it with a sand blasting pen.

I haven’t heard much about it, didn't see any advertisement either, do you have any info, a link?

Good grief, I had no idea powder was so difficult to find. Brought 80-85 pounds with me from Alaska so hopefully will be good to go for the next 18 months of so. I tried to sell off my RL 15 and 17 as well as 20 pounds of IMR 4831 in Alaska for $25 a pound because I thought I would have problems getting into Canada with it but could not sell one pound of it. Thank heavens for the lack of interest in Alaska. Border guards never even asked us if we had any.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

And now they are out of RL-15 too.

I hit all the shops locally.
Grabbed the last 3 pounds of Retumbo yesterday in Elizabethtown, KY.
Grand Opening day at Cabela's in Louisville, KY on 4-11-13,
I got the last pound of H4895 they had, and it was the only powder in the place on my shopping list.
Last Saturday at Whittaker Guns, Owensboro KY, I bought an 8-pound jug of Lil'Gun just because it was there. rotflmo
