Hi Everyone
A good fried of mine has discovered a Holland and Holland 450 Nitro Express No2 Double rifle in Zambia
He could not get me any images but I though I would ask what you think the range could be on value. I told him to get it checked out ASAP, but he was a bit lax to do so incase it was worthless. Perhaps someone here will have some info that may get him moving.
By the way, if there is an expert on these in the forum, please let me know what he shoul dbe looking for in the way of proof marks to identify the said rifle and condition scores etc.
Pictures to follow in a while hopefully.
Thanks
Ian

Well, unless you look at it, you'd never know.

Re proof marks - just write down what they are and tell you, it will become very evident what it is.

Hammer / Hammerless
Boxlock / Sidelock
Engraving coverage
CCH left or worn or gone completely
Bore Condtion

I would get it looked at ASAP.

Ian,

Not ignorance by any means. Just rememeber, we all originally knew nothing, hence there is never a dumb question Big Grin

CCH - Colour Case Hardening - all those loverly colours you see on guns.

450 No 2 is PROBABLY not a common calibre in a Holland
as they had the 500/450 and then the 500/465 after the ban,
but as they say, if a customer orders it, they'll sell it.

It could of course be a Webley or other maker
"Regulated by Holland" as one option.

Anyway, I would suggest posting info here as opposed to appraisers,
at least at first otherwise someone might well get to it first.

I have seen a H&H Dominion in 450 No2. It had been rebarreled by JJ Perodeau, and so marked on the barrels.

In the '70's I owned and hunted with a H&H Royal Deluxe in .450#2. Sold in a weak moment!

Someday, you need to write your hunting stories about the different double rifles you have hunted with.

Where you found/bought them, and the loads used and animals taken.
