Do YOU shoot the rifle well? Do YOU work the safety well? Does the rifle move well in your hands? Does the rifle fit you? Is the rifle in tip top shape? If all those are answered YES the price is attractive to me. Jack OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}

500/416 is a great double rifle round. You get a relatively low pressure flanged cartridge with a long .416 bullet that has good penetration. You have lots of manufacturers of .416 bullets to choose from. For me the recoil is a bit more than I like. On par with the 470, maybe a bit more. If you are buying a used rifle you need it checked out by a double rifle gunsmith. Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. I think you can get ammo from Superior Ammo, and a few others. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

The .500-416 does not appeal to me simply because you are getting .470 like recoil with a 400 gr projectile. I'd simply stick with a .470 or get .450-400 if I wanted a .40 cal. HOWEVER, If the rifle fits your budget and it is in like new condition it is probably a good buy for that price. The .500-416 will reliably kill anything you point it at.

its obviated with hornady making bullets and brass for the 450/400 .. I think Rusty got that from Butch, and I will see both of them over the next couple weeks anyway.. And I think what Butch meant to say is at weight for a .416 vs for a .470 rifle the recoils are simular, but the 416 should weigh less. Of course, in a bolt gun, a 416 at 2400 or 500gr at 2150 are fun to shoot ... In fact, my 470AR at 2150 at 9.5# is VERY nice to shoot I've shot several 470 NEs, and Mike's 500/416 .. MORE recoil in the 470, more brisk in the 500/416 .... but compared to a 450/400, the 500/416 offers a good deal more recoil.. its all realitive jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? 400 Nitro Express and I got that information from Boddington two years ago at the Houston Safari Club Convention. 400 Nitro Express was a significant source of historical information and consulted with Hornady during their development of the 450/400 3 inch loading. I have a batch of brass courtsey of Chris at HeymUSA. I bought some Hornady bullets and I have a Corbin sizing dies to bring them down to .408 Just hoping my Hollis gets out of the shop in time to hunt. My preception of recoil is probably a great deal different from others. Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. They are good guns. A perfect double rifle for a client. That is a great price on a normally very accurate double with a fail safe safety and built hell for stout. The caliber is perfect for a novice as it offers moderate recoil, great knock down, flat trajectory for longer shots, fantastic penetration, plenty of velocity for cats and a wonderful selection of bullets. Factory ammo is available from Kriegoff and loaded rounds can be purchased from small shops like Superior, Safari Arms and Buffalo Ammo Company. It is an easy caliber to reload, brass is not too expensive and lasts forever. I used a similar rifle to knock down and kill an elephant with one shot to the shoulder. It wasn't a huge bull, but suprised the hell out of me when he hit the ground. Of course I put three more into him rapidly to make certain he stayed down. Don Heath who is a PH and editor for African Hunter magazine told me he thought it was a perfect double rifle and caliber. Perry
