Hello!
Right now I own a Krieghoff classic in 9.3x74r and I really like it.. and I cant help myself from wanting a Krieghoff double in 500 NE.
I just wanted to know what velocity it is possible to get with the 570 grain bullets? Is 2200FPS to much to ask for?
What about the 535 grain bullets? 2300 FPS possible?
The reason I want to know this is because I will only hunt moose and bear with it.. and I was worry about the bullets not to expand enough on these "medium" animals.
Any one used the 570 grain woodleigh sp at lower velocity (1900-2150FPS) on anything smaller than lets say a buffalo? Whats your result?

Hey Buddy!!
you already have a 500 for smashing stuff!!

if you actual meese, they weigh about 50% more than kudu and up to double a lion - no one has really complained that the 500 nitro doesn't work on those.

i can tell you from personal experience that bullets designed for the 500 ne open up rather fast when driven at 2350 -- even on boar.

woodleigh is recommending impact velocities of roughly 1700-2200 for all of their .510 bullets, except the 600gr PP .. which I can also tell you hits REALLY hard.

can it be done? sure .. either 535 or 570 gr bullets, though woody says the recommended impact vels are the same...

even 500gr 10B cast bullets at 1900 will likely pass through

if your rifle can be regulated for the loads, no harm, no foul, just get it done.

if it "can't" then -- well, you CAN adjust the sights for a single barrel (i suggest the left barrel) - but you already have a 500 bolt gun, so would be a spendy way to have another.

good hunting

What do you mean with "you already have a 500" ?
That the bullet diamter is already .510 from the start?

What powder is the best for reaching 2200fps in the 500 NE?

Hej Overkill. Was just in Sweden for moose hunt.
I ll tell you what my experience with Gibbs .505 is which is about the same performance. 600 gr Woodleighs at 2200 or so full expanded on buffalo and started breaking apart. TSX were most accurate. Shot impala, zebra, wildebeest and buffalo and never any problem with expansion. 600 gr W bowled over a buffalo with side shot and impalas did pirouettes!

LR3

Thanks for the info! 600 grains at 2200FPS or 570 grains at 2200FPS is almost identical.. and you know that the ranges I am shooting my moose will 90% of the time be inside 30 yards because I hunt with a dog.
You should had used your 505 Gibbs when you were here in sweden Cool
