Just a small note on Cal's post above, since we've got the range rented it is free to everyone to shoot on that range. Only if you want to shoot on another one do you have to pay the normal $20 nonmember fee, so there's no reason not to come on out.

Joyce will be jazzed. Thanks Rob.

Jim, I've got ammo stacked deep for those. We'll get tired of loading magazines for her loooonnnng before we run out. Smiler

The non-DR guns I plan to bring are the aforementioned 4-bore single, howdah, and subguns(thompson, Sten, and 380/9mm Mac variations), DeLisle carbine replica on an Enfield action, Martini harpoon gun (why not?), suppressed 510 whisper precision rifle, and lastly, a modern Savage bolt action 12-bore rifle. Most are either British or at least in keeping with the spirit of the day, except of course the MAC and Sten which are interesting as they represent the absolute antithesis of a fine DR!

I'm excited to try the savage with heavy bullets for the first time (vs ~1 ounce subcaliber modern slugs) and see if it lives up to the idea of an affordable modern 12 bore rifle.

I just read this to Joyce. The shine of the setting sun reflecting off her smile just about blinded me. She loves your sub-guns.

As always thanks for your generosity in sharing the joy.

See you in a couple weeks

Cheers

Rob shoots his sub guns at our shoot. Then spends the next 364 days reloading for them on his single stage press.

I thought that you said he used a Lee Loader for those beasts. He's upgraded to a single stage now?

Wish I could make it Cal. I'm on the slope till the 11th.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." Just a reminder, the shoot is at Birchwood tomorrow May 7th 10-3pm. Everyone with any interest in doubles is invited to stop by, check them out, shoot a few, and grab something from the grill if you time it right. Smiler

Today's the day.
It's 5am here in Willow. Take the dog for a walk, the boat anchors are in the truck with ammo, grill, etc. and off in two hours.
Will post some pics here on AR and also on my website tonight.
See you all there.

Cal, that is my new bore rifle, a Savage BOLT ACTION 12-bore. I know it is lacking a second barrel, but it does hold two in the mag plus one in the chamber. A loaded pure lead paradox type 815 grain bullet is pictured in the lower right in an RMC brass case. I'm going to work with 900 grain flat point bullets in brass and (shiver) plastic cases next to see if this is a viable modern rival to 12-bore rifles of old. If the factory 1:36 barrel doesn't pan out I've got a tighter blank on hand to try too.
