Some of the values seem to be off, with Krieghoff and Chapuis doubles estimated from $4,500-$7,000, but Blaser S2 rifles from $9,000 to $22,000???. I think actual prices will vary considerably.

Those aren't "values". They are estimates created by guys who know nothing about double rifles, or much of anything else. I know some of them.

I doubt it. I am going to watch the auction for sure though. I don't really want a chapuis.

I can't believe anyone that has a double rifle that they want to sell at auction is useing those guys. They would do better by selling it here.

A few years back, I contacted Rock Island to auction off a beautiful cased Rigby Farquharson that had been professionally restored. The rifle was made in 1903. The caliber was .450 NE 3-1/4". It was well documented and had a prominent and interesting provenance. I had sent them photos and full information. They replied that such an obscure rifle would not generate sufficient interest, nobody would bid, and it would be more trouble than it was worth. They refused to auction it. So, I called them. In our conversation it became clear to me that they had absolutely no understanding of the rifle, the cartridge, or Rigby. They said they had never even heard of a Farquharson rifle before.

I sent the rifle to another company to sell and they sold it in very short time for $17,500.

They sold over Sixty Million dollars worth of stuff last year so plenty of people consign items to them to sell. They have the best catalog, and world wide publicity, so just because they are not experts at everything doesn't mean they won't do well. I can't imagine them refusing to take anything though; you can't put a floor on things though. It sells for what it sells for, and RIA takes at least 30% of it, coming in and going out. They routinely pick up collections of hundreds of guns; most relative's don't have the time nor interest to try and sell them individually.

The heavy 12-bore with 7-drams interests me.

Not to say that they are not good at what they do, they are. Just the double rifle department need some to advertise for them. I have been turning people on to double rifles they have bought several times now.

Their forte is older US arms, especially Colt and Winchester.

Cam: I understand enjoy the hunt. I think for top end 8k you could find a solid English 450/400 BLE. If that is what you want.

Are you going to Knob Creek this weekend?

For the machine gun shoot? I'm not. I am super busy with the restaurant, a Victorian house remodel, and scouting for turkey.

Good luck with the turkeys. 14 have been holding on our farm, but come next week the hens will be on nest and the toms and jakes moved on. The spring season is too late. I have much better luck in the fall.

Good luck with the restaurant.

That Holland Holland in 450 express is what has me excited, but what does that scope mount do to the value of the gun? Does non-traditional drilling and tapping crush the value, and is this why the estimate is as low as it is? Surely the double market has not sunk to the level of their estimate!

I always call the auction houses and get a person who is knowledgeable about doubles and have them pull it our and go over it with me on the phone. Usually a good way to do it if you can't be there in person. Rock Island never gives a really in depth analysis of their guns. Julia Auctions does.

Well, it does come with a box of Kynoch 450NE so that scope may be coming off soon...

It is unfortunate that a double with what looks to have pretty high original condition had that scope put on it but that was probably done decades ago.
The holes can be filled and engraved over nearly undetectable.

You read that one wrong Bieber! the $9,000 to $22,000 on the Blaser S2 is what the current owner is offering for someone to TAKE the rifle from him!

Cool
