Anyone own a Harrison & Hussey double rifle? Just curious about your thoughts on it's fit and function. What caliber is it in?

I think AFreeman had one, might check with him. I think it was in a 500-- it may not have been his, I've slept since then. I do remember it was a nice looking rifle.

Howdy,

Nope, I do not own one but you can check in the Guns International website. They usually have a few. I think right now they just have Cog and Harrison. in 500 NE and another in 450/400. They are Box Locks most of the time I have seen them. You may ask AKMike...he is knowledgeable and local.

Frostbit:
I have an H&H .450-400 3" made in 1920, along with the history of the owners and one owner of note--Google Douglas Jardine--a rather famous (infamous) cricket player who was a hunter. He came down with tick fever in Rhodesia in 1957 and died a few months later. His widow sold the rifle back to the company when he was near death. The rifle is cased in o&l, scoped, and is quite accurate. A rather plain rifle with border engraving I have hunted in SA, Zim, and Tanzania as well as Alaska. You can see photos of on the trophies and double rifles page of my website.
Cheers,
Cal

Nice piece of investigative journalism. Still some hurdles to jump. Have to convince Joyce that a double is as good an investment as the dozen guitars acquired over the years. Big Grin

Well, I jumped on the merry go round and not sure where to get off. The problem right now is if I sell I make great coin, but then I can't buy the same quality again as I cannot afford it.

That's always the dilemma.

I keep the users / those I want to use and off load any others, then move onto something new.

Another thing I found is you can't judge the next purchase price against the price you paid for the last one or something similar. I found prices move too much.

Remember, if you pay tomorrow's price today, then tomorrow it is yesterday's price. So sometimes it can be beneficial to buy instead
of always waiting for a bargain !!! LOL

I agree with 500N! I get dozens of emails each week asking advise on buying a double and 90+% of the time the feedback is that, "It is too much money." That may be true but I reply that what is high today is fair tomorrow and a bargain the day after that. When my .600 Wilkes came into Alaska some passed on it as (then) 10K$ was far too much! One can always find a bargain on the everyday stuff--not so on the vintage doubles. If you want it--but it!
Cheers,
Cal
