Once again,I fell under Heym's spell at SCI, and ordered a double. As with the rest of my rifle purchases, once I order them, I start assembling the gear necessary to reload for them.I seem to have run into a brick wall on the brass. Where are you guys getting your's? Cheers. Chip.

PM me and give me a couple days. I have not had a 450-400 a heym for a couple of years but knowing how I hoard components I would think I should have lots of new cases. Let me know how mAny you are looking for. Frostbit it will be a 3" version. Mac

Hi, Teutonic. I think it will depend on whether or not the factory has a barreled action with 26" barrels in their inventory. If so, I'm guessing less than a year. If not, probably a year or more. Chris didn't tell me at the time. Best. Chip.

Congratulations! If you have never owned a 450/400NE 3" double rifle you will learn to love that chambering! Like the 375H&H there is something magic about the 450/400NE cartridge. It just seems to do everything very well. Also in in a well made and fitted double rifle like the Heym it is a pleasure to carry and shoot. I've owned two doubles, and one Ruger No1 chambered for that round, and it is one of my all time favorites! ....................................................................................... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

May I suggest that your order include WEIGHT parameters, not just WAIT parameter... Ten pounds at the absolute max, unloaded, unscoped. Are you having a scope option? May your rifle provide you with decades of excellent service!!! D/R Hunter Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

Hello, D R Hunter. The rifle has been spec'ed with 26" barrels, a 15.25 LOP, and your suggested maximum weight of 10 lbs. As it stands, I intend to mount a Trijicon RM004 illuminated sight to the rib. If that proves insufficient to correct my 65 year old eyes, then I'll send it to Joe Smithson in Utah to have his mounts installed for use with a Swarovski Z6 1-6x24 EE scope.

bradhe: I, too fell victim to the .577 fever last year at SCI. I have not yet taken delivery of the rifle, though. Good luck with yours.

Hornady brass seems to pop up on Gunbroker every few days at reasonable prices. Hornady loaded ammo is almost always on GB for less than 90 a box for 3". NRA Endowment Member DRSS

I tried a Heym 450/400 at the SCI for size as well. A sweet left-handed one. I was tempted. Though, if one has a .375 H%H isn't 450/400 redundant? It seems to be a bit inferior to .375 ballistically (looking at fps and ft/lbs).

Congratulations on the Heym! For the year or so after I bought my Merkel in 450/400 I bought Hornady brass from MidwayUSA whenever it was available. I also bought a few boxes of loaded Hornady ammo from either Midway or maybe Cheaper Than Dirt so that I'd have that brass. I have maybe 140 pieces total now, and they all seem to be in pretty good condition. I'm also shooting Hornady bullets - both the DGX and DGS. By the way, I love this caliber and wish more manufacturers supported it, not that I have anything against Hornady. For me it's perfect - I can shoot it as well as I shoot any other caliber and it's been effective on buffalo and tuskless.

Nice choice in both caliber and rifle. My goal is to have one DR from every current double rifle maker, and I do not yet have a Heym, and it would be in 450-400. The reason is that for some reason, they are priced well above other makers for equal features and quality. I should probably play lotto.
