I'm hoping the management will tolerate me for a few days, by allowing me to announce here, that by approximately January 25 of
'18, I will have arrived in Wasilla-AK, with a plan to be there at least a few months, and I'd really like to meet anyone from AR who would
be in the general vicinity while I'm there! I've a relative there, and he's wanted a visit from me forever, and finally, as I close in on 58
years of age, I can make the journey and stay there a good long while.

A tip - if you want to rent a car, do it before you travel as they are often in short supply in Anchorage.
Or, you can do what my wife and I did - get Cal to take us to the cruise check in location. Wink

Don't wait to May, give a ring when you get here.
I shoot weekly in a heated shooting shed to a 50-yard target. You're welcome anytime.

PS. Your truck is too fancy for Willow. Drive an old bucket of rusted bolts to fit in with the Willowbillies.

I'll notify you within my first couple of days of being in Wasilla. My new TUNDRA 4X4
replaces the little TACOMA two-wheel drive that I had been driving. TOYOTA RELIABILITY/
DURABILITY "Owns" my present era vehicle purchasing mindset. Thank you again Cal. Smiler

This sounds like it will be an epic adventure. D R: I admire your faith in the Alcan highway in winter. Got your copy of the Milepost?

I drove the Alcan the first time in 1983; still had many sections unpaved. I drove it in 1987 in the winter and it was a piece of cake compared to 1987; believe it was all paved by then.

I, too, drove the Alcan in 1983 and two dozen times since. All paved and smooth at highway speed now. A bit slow in the Muncho Lake area due narrow and winidng roads. Get gas in Fort Nelson and again at Watson Lake (if your truck can get 320 miles between fill ups). The gas pump at the lodge at Muncho Lake is 8$ per gallon. A very enjoyable drive and, if you get the chance go the other way (down or up) the Cassier Highway to get a change of scenery.
Safe travels to you.
Cal

If you really want to fit in with the Wasilla/Willow crowd, he better put in a lift kit and put on oversize off-road tires. Put two wood stove pipes in the front of the bed with a black smoke maker. Buy a bumper sticker that says "Rollin Coal". Drive too fast for conditions. Also an Alaska Zombie Hunter sticker...

Just north of Muncho Lake, on the Yukon and BC border is Laird hot springs. Stop there for a swim or a soak.

I don't own a double rifle but would still be happy to meet for lunch or coffee. I live just a couple miles out of Wasilla.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." My brother-in-law and I drove the Alcan in 1972 in a Porsche 914. The border entry at Tok took about 2 hours. The officer was certain we were smuggling something and proceeded to dismantle everything in the car. Anymore I just go to Canada - a better class of border officers.

My first trip over the ALCAN was in the early 70's and I've made over a dozen more trips since, winter and summer... Two of those trips were on my motorcycle.

I'm really not interested in making another!
