You may remember that last year I was given this rifle by Lary Knowlton but it had to be re imported. Finally it is on it's way to Zambia.

I received the ammo which is 570gr. C.E.B. Non Con and solids. Velocity 2100fps. Anyone had an experience with this stuff?

I will remove the leather cartridge holder by the way.

Andrew, congrats on your new double, V.C puts together a fine firearm, one I'm sure you'll get many years of enjoyable and reliable service from.

I have only just recieved my own V.C .500 N.E and as such cannot report on the feild performance of the heavier C.E.B's but if their anything like their lighter counterparts you will be nothing short of shell-shocked by the results.

In my .5oo ultra mag wildcat (boltgun) the 460gn non-cons are absolutely devastating on buffalo from any angle.
Clean-cut, large ENRTY holes with free flowing blood trail and massive exits holes with same.
Internal damage needs to be seen to be believed !
The petals on the non-cons create incredible trauma and the remaining shank keeps on driving through.

I only shot one bovine(wild Oxen) this year with a borrowed .500 N.E using the 525gn non-con which was pole-axed on recieving the slug to the bowler joint in the front right shoulder at about 80yds.
In addition I also took 13 buffalo and four wild Oxen with my .500 ultra mag using the 460gn non-cons, from various angles and distances and each and evry one of them was extremely impressive.

The solids are also in a class of their own.

I have been privaliged to witness a lot of the field trialling of these projectiles on buffalo/bovines and have been extremely impressed to the point where i am currently awaiting on the delivery/import of over 500 of these projectiles for my own personal use.

Cheers,

Paul.

Andrew-

You will be very happy with the performance of the CEB bullets on buff - non-cons - and ele - solids. Best bullets available in todays market, IMO. I've killed two Ele with them in 458. Todd Williams and others have used the 500NE with them without incident as well.

Check for info on the Big Bores forum at the top of the Rifles section. Good luck with the new DR.

As Lionhunter said - great bullet, excellent double. tu2 tu2

Add an elephant with a solid out of a V-C 600NE and leopard with a Non-Con out of a V-C 375FL to the list of dangerous game taken CEB bullets from Verney-Carron doubles.

Best of luck and congratulations on your new double rifle beer

Congrats Andrew, the export and import process can be a challenge at times.
If I remember correctly you were tangled up with the Taksdale mess. I am glad that Lary was able to help make this better.
I am sure you will be pleased with both the gun and the CEB's.
Not sure if you make Dallas or SCI, but if you do be sure to have Lary bring you by the booth.

Good news! CEB bullets will do you well. The results of the Non-Con's on waterbuck and bushbuck were amazing. Lots of internal trauma! Look forward to more pics when you receive the gun.

Good hunting!

Thanks chaps and sounds like with that ammo I am ready to go. I sold my .458WM and my K .470 in readiness for the .500 as I feel in my work it is all I need. Will keep the .404J as it has served me well.

Andrew,

You are in for a treat with both the VC and the CEBs. I recently took a buff with the Non-Cons and elephant with the solids from CEB in my VC 577NE. I also took a lion with the 9.3 Non-Cons.

The Non-Cons destroyed the critters' insides. The solids penetrated from a head shot to recovery just in front of the elephant's tail; full length!

The bullets are awesome! And you'll find that VC to be top of the line as well.

Andrew, I do not know if you are in a position to reload yourself, or if the loads provided were regulated for the gun you have, but if you ARE able to reload then might I suggest you try the lighter slugs available i.e 475gn non-cons for everything other than Elephant.

With the Talon Tip (black plastic tips inserted into the holow portion of the non-con) they are much more emphatic on buffalo sized game than the heavier slugs as they arrive with much more velocity.
You cannot have too much velocity with these brass non-cons.
A 510gn solid would be a great slug to pair with the 475gn non-con.

Just a suggestion.

Paul.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.
